The Tuskegee University, College of Veterinary Medicine welcomed 51 new doctors of veterinary medicine into the profession on May 2 during the Graduate and Professional Schools formal ceremony in the Chappie James Arena which had the Commencement Address speaker to be our very own alum, Rear Admiral Kis Robertson Hale, Class of 2003.

Also exciting to the TUCVM Class of 2026 was the Veterinary Medicine Oath and Hooding Ceremony which immediately followed the commencement in which the graduates formally took their oath as now official veterinarians in front of family and friends.

The Veterinary Oath Charge was given by our very own alum, Dr. Athema Etzioni, Class of 2001. Dr. Etzioni is a tenured associate professor and section chief of Clinical Pathology, alternate attending veterinarian for the Comparative Medicine Resource Center in the Pathobiology Department, and an adjunct medicine clinician in the Small Animal Veterinary Teaching Hospital at TUCVM.

The veterinary medicine class of 2026 represents the 77th graduation class of veterinarians from Tuskegee University. Since 1949, Tuskegee has now awarded 3,186 veterinary medicine degrees from the first veterinary medical professional program on the campus of a Historically Black College or University.
Again, congratulations to our new doctors! We are proud of you all!!!

Pinning Ceremony Presenters were Mr. Deshaun Green, Ms. Twanda Collins, & Ms. Kennede Perry (also graduating May 2nd with her MPH degree). Ms. Perry has also been accepted into the new incoming first year veterinary medicine Class of 2030. Candidates for the MPH degree recognized also were Ms. Amira Brooks & Ms. Savannah Williams. Among faculty members, special guests, family and friends, students were honored during this year’s pinning ceremony and presented with the official pin and blazer followed by an inspiring Charge presentation from Dr. Lloyd Webb, retired Professor of Public Health. In his keynote address, Dr. Webb gave several good points to the students as they embark on future careers in public health. However, he summed up his overall challenge by saying, “Students, be confident that you can make a positive impact using the knowledge, skills, and experiences that you have attained while at Tuskegee University. In the workplace, you will encounter numerous health challenges and learn of many health disparities. However, be mindful that during your studies in public health, a key objective was centered on preparing you to become a change-maker.”
