VET STEP I WRAPPED UP ON FRI., JUNE 12TH! 😊

Thanks to all the participants of the Tuskegee University, College of Veterinary Medicine (TUCVM) Veterinary Science Training, Education and Preparation Institute (VET STEP I) program which ran June 8-12 for students entering grades 9-10. The students had an awesome time at the TU Goat Farm field day activity on June 10!

The 2026 VET STEP I Closing Ceremony was held June 12, in which participants presented their research project topics and displayed what they learned over the week. They were also presented with their white coats and pins and allowed to take memorable photos with their family members and supporters.

VET STEP Program Director Jerome Jones and the VET STEP staff thanks everyone who helped make the VET STEP I program a memorable experience for these ! Looking forward to VET STEP II which starts June 22nd!

It is with sincere sadness that the Tuskegee University, College of Veterinary Medicine (TUCVM) share the announcement of the passing of our beloved 2015 alum, Dr. Candice A. LaCurtis.

Dr. LaCurtis (Candice to many) passed away on June 5th. She served as a work study student in the TUCVM Media Center for several years, also served as the president of the Tuskegee Gospel Ensemble student group under Linda Cade for several years, and was a faithful member of Omega Tau Sigma (veterinary fraternity). Dr. LaCurtis was employed with Banfield. Please keep her family in your thoughts and prayers.

TUCVM WELCOMES OUR VET STEP I (9th & 10th graders) 2026 participants.... ! The Tuskegee University, College of Veterinary Medicine (TUCVM) is excited to have you here this week (June 8-12) to participate in the Veterinary Science Training, Education, and Preparation Institute (VET STEP) which is our one-week residential program designed to introduce high school students to veterinary medicine. Several fun activities have already happened including a visit from the Montgomery Zoo today as well as some great teaching sessions!
