The purpose of my research is to develop a sexual-well-being instrument representative of the young adult gay and bisexual men (YAGBM) population. The qualitative and quantitative phases to this study aim to contribute valuable information to the existing body of knowledge on sexual health, particularly focusing on the understanding, experiences, and well-being of young individuals with diverse sexual orientations. The study's findings may have implications for enhancing the well-being of YAGBM.

RESEARCH ANNOUNCEMENT

Police departments are having a hard time finding people that want to be police officers. Rick Helfers and David Scott are former police officers and currently police researchers. We are trying to find out some of the reasons police officers believe is behind the problem with police recruitment. A couple of years ago we talked to kids of police officers and found their police officer parents are not encourageing them to look into policing as a career. Many police officers had parents or other relatives that were police officers and were encouraged into the policing profession. Now we would like to get the views from current police officers about the issues surrounding recruitment and retention of officers in small, rural police departments.

We would like to talk to you about your views about why people would not want to be police officers today. We would like to ask you a few questions about your views on recruitment and retention of police officers. Your participation is voluntary and your comments will be anonymous. No information will be given to anyone about what you say.

If you are willing to talk to us, please email either Rick Helfers at [email protected] or David Scott at [email protected] The interview will take about 30-45 minutes and we can do it either in person or by Zoom. Thank you for your time.

This research project has been reviewed and approved by the UT Tyler Institutional Review Board.

RESEARCH ANNOUNCEMENT:
Study Participants Requested

Hello, my name is Olga Berkout. I am an assistant professor in the Department of Psychology and Counseling at the University of Texas at Tyler.

Our research team is conducting a study focused on what mental healthcare is like for people living in rural areas including things that are working well and could be improved. We would also like to learn more about how therapists view technology in mental healthcare.

To do this, we would like to interview people who have been serving those living in rural areas as therapists and record and analyze these interviews. Participant requirements for this study include being a therapist serving individuals who live in cities of less than 10,000 people and having these clients comprise at least 20% of your caseload for at least a year.

The expected amount of time that it will take you to complete the interview is about an hour. You will not be compensated for participating in this study, but we hope our findings can help improve rural mental healthcare.

Participation in the study is voluntary, meaning that you are answering the questions provided because you want to, not because you must. You can stop participating in the study at any time. I may share the deidentified data publicly so that others may learn from the findings.

If you agree to participate in the study, I will use the information you provide in the analysis and reporting of this study. Your responses will be anonymous and no names or personally identifiable information will be shared in study reports.

If you agree to participate in this research study, please email [email protected] and we will set up a time for your interview.
