Kean University is steadfast in its dedication to maintaining an educational environment in which diversity can flourish and an atmosphere in which mutual respect characterizes relations among the members of a pluralistic community. The University seeks to combine excellence with equity in providing opportunities for all students. Kean is a comprehensive university where faculty and staff dedicate
themselves to student learning and scholarship. Kean is equally committed to providing timely and effective service to our students to ensure that they have every opportunity to succeed academically, professionally and personally. More specifically, Kean University is very aware of the priorities of our first year students, freshmen and transfers, and we understand that this group has a set of specific and unique needs as individuals. We are committed to a thorough understanding of those unique needs and to do all that is possible to meet those needs and facilitate a smooth transition into the University. To this end the University has established and supports the following goals:
- Establish organized and comprehensive support programs during the first year.
- Assess these programs as well as policies, practices, structures, leadership, resources and physical environment regularly, to ensure efficacy and effectiveness.
- Assist undergraduate students (freshmen, transfer and Kean/Ocean) in adjusting to the academic, social and physical environment of the campus to ensure retention and provide a rewarding, productive and successful experience.
- Provide services and personal connections to facilitate integration into a sustained intellectual and civil university that appreciates diversity, encourages engagement and builds foundations for life-long learning.
