🐾 🙌 Let’s give a big "WE ARE!" for two Liberal Arts staff members being thanked by the Penn State community for their presence within the College of the Liberal Arts!

🏆 Dave Brown, director of undergraduate studies in the Department of Economics in the College of the Liberal Arts, whose nominator wrote: “Dave is a fantastic colleague who is always supportive of everybody. He is the person we can always rely on, as he is always looking for ways to make our daily work better! He is a very valuable member of our department! Thank you, Dave!”

🏆 Alex Nichols, academic program coordinator for the Department of Communication Arts and Sciences in the College of the Liberal Arts, whose nominator wrote: “Alex has gone above and beyond to make sure new recruits have an exceptional first experience at Penn State. She also brings her yoga and mindfulness expertise into the workplace, creating a positive, balanced environment that her colleagues genuinely appreciate.”

Teri Spence grew up in extreme poverty in Southwest Missouri, reading encyclopedias because she was hungry for a world she couldn't yet reach. College felt like something meant for other people. Then she found her way to Penn State World Campus

She earned an associate degree in 2010, a bachelor's in 2012, and a master’s in human resources and employment relations in 2015, all while working full-time at Penn State raising her family, and supporting her husband through three battles with leukemia.

Today, she's Penn State's Director of Academic Compliance.

"My children watched me study late at night, balance work and caregiving, and push through without giving up," she says. "They started their adult lives with possibilities I never had. That's the true impact of this journey." ✨
