Action Sports and Academics is a business organized and run by Tanner Waite (Surf Ride’s Surf Camp Manager) who is an Oceanside born and raised professional surfer, senior Mechanical Engineering student at the University of California Irvine, and an experienced surf camp manager with a passion for bringing the community together to build friendships and provide mentorship for our local youth! We are starting, in conjunction with Surf Ride board shops, an after school program running through the end of the year and beyond. Operations will be located at North Jetty at the Oceanside Harbor (same place as surf camp) from 3-5 pm Monday through Friday (partial week options available) starting the week of August 24th. Our goal is to provide our participants with surf coaching (both competitive and non-competitive), ocean-based education, and tutoring for homework in ANY subject. They must provide their own board, wetsuit, and bring their homework if they need help. Students MUST be able to catch waves under their own power, assistants will be in the water to give tips and promote improvement. However, should you (the parents) only want them to focus on surfing and having fun at the beach, the tutoring is optional. This will be a great program to encourage our youth to get outside and have fun with their friends in a safe environment! Private coaching and tutoring options are also available!
