Two of our BEPS faculty (Sylvanna Bielko and Sarah Justice) and their spouses joined a group of Taylor faculty and staff on a Civil Rights trip this past week. In addition to the history of the Civil Rights movement, the trip focused on the principles of belonging and community and the role they play in our lives both inside and outside the classroom. If you would like to hear more, feel free to reach out to Prof. Bielko, Dr. Justice, or Dr. Barb Bird.

Say hello to the most toxic tree in the world, Hippomane mancinella or Manchineel tree . They are from the same family as Christmas poinsettias and grow in the tropical regions of lower North America, the Caribbean, Central America, and Northern South America. This tree is awarded the most toxic because every part of the tree such as the bark, sap, leaves, and fruit all are toxic and can even cause blisters if touched. The worst toxin is phorbol, a highly soluble ester, so you don't want to find shelter from the rain under this tree unless you want severe burns. However the trees do play a large part in costal ecosystems and thus are not removed.
