Delta Gamma Foundation Delta Gamma Foundation fosters lifetime enrichment, promotes Service for Sight and partners with the Fraternity to ensure the future of our sisterhood.

Our dedicated members and friends make this possible through philanthropy, service and generous gifts. It's the Delta Gamma Foundation's final Do Good Week spotlight, highlighting members who have integrated the spirit of Service for Sight into their professional careers to bring more awareness of career paths related to Service for Sight.

Meet Hoang Uyen Nguyen, Lambda-Minnesota, a certified ophthalmic medical technologist (COMT). Hoang Uyen works with ophthalmologists who see patients with glaucoma, cataracts and other eye diseases. She works alongside doctors committed to improving health and well-being in her community.

Delta Gamma's philanthropy helped Hoang Uyen refine her career path. After graduating and working in media advertising for over a decade, she decided her passions are actually in a health-related career, and Service for Sight sparked her interest in the vision services field.

Staying connected to Delta Gamma is still an important part of Hoang Uyen's life, even 28 years after joining. She's a member of her local house corporation and a loyal Foundation supporter.

Hoang Uyen's advice for someone interested in vision services careers is to just DO IT! It's rewarding, sometimes challenging, but vision is so important. There are so many specialties to explore as well. Find your niche.

Guide dogs play an important role in helping people who are blind or have low vision navigate the world. 🦮

Working with a guide dog can provide confidence and independence for people who would otherwise rely on others to live their daily lives. Check out these tips from Guide Dogs for the Blind to learn how to interact with guide dogs and their handlers, and learn more at guidedogs.com/resources/guide-dog-etiquette.

✨Don't pet or touch a guide dog while they are wearing a harness or vest.
✨Don't offer a guide dog food or other distracting treats.
✨Don’t touch or steer a guide dog’s harness.
✨Keep your pet dog leashed and at a respectful distance.
✨Refrain from calling out directions to a person with a guide dog or intentionally obstructing their path.
✨Don’t offer toys to a guide dog without asking the person’s permission.

During Do Good Week, the Delta Gamma Foundation is highlighting members who have integrated the spirit of Service for Sight into their professional careers to bring more awareness of career paths related to Service for Sight.

Meet Jessica Poggi, Gamma Epsilon-Kent State, marketing director at the Center for the Visually Impaired (CVI). Jessica helps raise awareness of their services and educate eye care professionals and the broader community about how the organization can extend support when glasses, surgery or other medical treatments can no longer restore a patient’s vision. Jessica's volunteer work with the Atlanta alumnae chapter helped introduce her to CVI.

Service for Sight gave Jessica a strong personal foundation and a genuine commitment to supporting people with vision loss. At CVI, that mission comes to life for her when clients share their successes — such as navigating an airport after white cane training, using the Be My Eyes app or studying with the help of a screen reader.

Staying connected to Delta Gamma was an important part of Jessica's life. When she first moved to Atlanta, the chapter helped her meet wonderful women from across the country and connect with local and national events, including DG's Sesquicentennial celebration in Oxford, MS.

Jessica's advice for others is simple — get involved with local organizations as a volunteer to continue your Service for Sight impact. You'll not only build meaningful relationships with others, but you'll see firsthand the resilience, determination and hope of people with vision loss.

During Do Good Week, we're celebrating our shared commitment as Delta Gammas to put more good in the world! That's the power of the Do Good Sisterhood. ⚓

Operation BASH (Blind Adaptive Sports Heroes) fosters peer-to-peer connections and independence for veterans living with blindness or low vision through outdoor adventure programs. With support from a 2025 Service for Sight grant, Adaptive Sports Center hosted three week-long outdoor adventure programs in Crested Butte, Colorado. Through shared lodging, communal meals and group experiences, veterans built lasting friendships and support networks that extend far beyond their time together.

Thank you to the Foundation donors whose generosity makes Service for Sight grants like these possible. Together, we're bringing our mission to life and showing what we can accomplish when we do good!

Our Do Good Sisterhood represents thousands of members who work every day to put more good into the world through Service for Sight. During Do Good Week, the Delta Gamma Foundation is highlighting members who have integrated the spirit of Service for Sight into their professional careers to bring more awareness of career paths related to Service for Sight.

Meet Emily Thornton, Gamma Omicron-Indiana State. Emily is a data coordinator for VIPS (Vision Interventions & Parental Support) who works to turn data into valuable information that helps VIPS understand where needs are growing, make informed decisions and ultimately support the families and children they serve.

Service for Sight gave Emily an early connection to the world of blindness and low-vision services and helped her understand the impact organizations like VIPS can have on children and families. Being part of Delta Gamma made Emily more passionate about finding a career where she could contribute to the same mission professionally.

And staying connected to Delta Gamma is part of the deal, too! She's close with the sisters from her chapter and is building new friendships through the Louisville alumnae chapter. Her career helps her carry the spirit of service we all know as Delta Gammas into her work, every day.

And, she has advice for others wishing to pursue a career inspired by Service for Sight: "Be open to the many ways they can make an impact. There are so many opportunities beyond direct services, including data, education, advocacy, fundraising and administration."

You empower children and teens navigating vision loss to build the independence and confidence they need to thrive when you support the Delta Gamma Foundation.

In 2025, the Foundation was proud to award a Service for Sight grant to Braille Institute of America to help support Braille Challenge. This annual national braille literacy competition motivates students to practice and hone their braille skills while promoting braille literacy on an international scale. Programs like this expand what's possible for children and teens living with blindness or low vision.
