A GoPro, a book, and a horse named Tornado.

Those are the components of Illinois alum Jennifer Haare and Jackie Furtado's photobook "TORNADO," a chronophotographic art piece that brought them from Arizona to Paris to display the images they incorporated into the book's deliberate and almost-in-motion image sequence.

To acquire their photos, Haare and Furtado loosely tied a GoPro around a horse (Tornado), which captured a unique perspective of the horse's movement. "This kind of imagery showed chaos," said Haare, reflecting on the 100 frames they'd distilled from the original 30,000.

By a series of fortunate events and connections, Haare and Furtado's unique and innovative artwork was featured in the Galerie Richet in Paris, where it was displayed for three months.

Seven of this year's recipients of a Fulbright grant have accepted their award — and all seven are LAS students!

The Fulbright U.S. Student Program offers grants to academically and professionally outstanding students who are interested in furthering its mission of building international relationships and helping solve global challenges.

In the fall, these students will embark on journeys all across the world. They'll spend a year in places like Italy, Taiwan, Armenia, and more, teaching English or pursuing advanced degrees that will help them achieve their goals of ushering in a more connected and understanding global community.

We celebrate their incredible passion and ambition and wish them a wonderful and transformative experience abroad!
