Let's celebrate! Several amazing LAS undergraduate students have been awarded prominent scholarships this spring:

🏆 Sameer Abbasi and Lyndon Shi have received Boren Awards. This is the 11th consecutive year that at least one Illinois student has earned this scholarship!

🏆 Di Lan Johnson, Christine Nguyen, and Karel Pene (now a two-time CLS recipient!) were awarded U.S. Department of State Critical Language Scholarships.

🏆 George Bayliss was awarded a Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship. Fun fact: no university has had more Goldwater Scholarship recipients —13 — over the past three years than Illinois!

🏆 R. Fisher Houston was awarded the Udall Undergraduate Scholarship, one of only 65 recipients nationwide.

We congratulate these students on their achievements and can't wait to see what they do next!

Plus, make sure to pop over to our site for descriptions of the awards, our students, and their future plans:

Connection, culture, and community; last month, faculty and staff at Illinois joined up for some French-language immersion with young multilingual students from across C-U!

The Department of French and Italian's FrancoFun event brought local French-speaking students together on campus to celebrate their identity and language. The event also emphasized the importance of advocating and supporting continued language education in the community.

The recent weather has been anything but predictable.

In this new segment, meteorologist Jacob Dickey takes a closer look at how hail forms and what is driving the unusual weather patterns with Dr. Jeff Frame, professor of atmospheric sciences in LAS, who highlights the science behind it all and why it matters.
