Students are invited to learn more about on-air reporting with William La Jeunesse, FOX News senior national correspondent, on Friday, Sept. 11, from 12-2 p.m., at Frank Newsroom at Richmond Studio.

Since La Jeunesse joined FOX News in 1998, he has covered numerous disasters including hurricanes, floods, fires, typhoons, mudslides, and volcanos. He’s also held assignments in Afghanistan, Iraq, Israel, Mexico, Central America, London, and Thailand.

Celebrate the launch of ā€œQuinceaƱeras: Latinidades and Girlhood in Popular Cultureā€ (University of Illinois Press), co-edited by two alumni and an emerita professor from the Institute of Communications Research, on Thursday, Sept. 10, from 4:30-6 p.m., at Spurlock Museum.

Join in the conversation with Jillian M. BĆ”ez (PhD ’09, communications and media, ICR), Diana Leon-Boys (PhD ’20, communications and media, ICR), and Institute of Communications Research Professor Emerita Angharad N. Valdivia (PhD ’91, communications and media, ICR), who edited the collection that draws on the expanding field of girlhood studies to examine the increasing visibility of the event and the figure of the quinceaƱera herself in pop culture.

Professor Isabel-Molina GuzmƔn, who has an appointment with the Institute of Communications Research, will be moderating. Books will be available at this event for purchase and signing.

Roberson Alphonse, head of national news at "Le Nouvelliste" in Haiti, will present "The Price to Pay to Uphold Press Freedom and Democracy," on Wednesday, Sept. 9, 4:30-6 p.m., in 223 Gregory Hall.

Alphonse is an accomplished Haitian media professional with over two decades of experience in investigative journalism, print journalism, and television and radio hosting. Known for his courage and commitment to truth and justice, he is head of national news at "Le Nouvelliste" newspaper, newsroom director at Magik 9, and producer of the DĆØye Kay program on Tele 20.

All are invited to join us for the Ebert Center's first film of the season—the screening of "A.I. Artificial Intelligence" (2001), on Thursday, Sept. 3, at 7 p.m. at the Knight Auditorium, Spurlock Museum. Admission is free.

RogerEbert.com film critic and new Ebert Fellows mentor Isaac Feldberg will introduce the film, which is directed by Steven Spielberg and attributed as Stanley Kubrick’s final work. The film stars Jude Law and Haley Joel Osment, who plays a highly advanced robotic boy longing to become ā€œrealā€ to regain the love of his human mother. The family must navigate the difference between human and AI, as the robot begins to present more danger than love.

Food truck and concessions will be available at 6 p.m.
