University Library Office of Collections and Technical Services The Office of Collections and Technical Services provides oversight and leadership for all aspects of collection development and management.

Operating under the overarching vision of “Facilitating Acquisition, Enabling Preservation, and Ensuring Access” the Office of Collections and Technical Services includes among its core programs: collection development, assessment, and management; preservation and conservation services; and content acquisition and discovery. The units within the Office of Collections and Technical Services include

: Acquisitions, Cataloging and Metadata (CAM), Collection Management Services (CMS), and Preservation Services. With a combined operating budget of over $3.5-million and oversight responsibility for $17.5-million in collections dollars, the Office of Collections and Technical Services is responsible for providing leadership in the acquisition, development, management, and curation of materials in all formats for the academic community at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

We’re thrilled about this new acquisition: A first American (unauthorized) edition of The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano. Kidnapped as a child in Africa, Equiano eventually purchased his freedom and spent his life advocating for the abolishment of slavery.

As the University Library gears up to offer some limited on-site services to students, faculty, and staff on campus, please check the current building access procedures.

Beginning Aug 24, all campus community members (faculty, staff, and students) who come to Library-managed buildings or spaces to retrieve books or technology from locker pick-up, or to meet individuals in the Library for appointment-based services, must show their building entry status as “Granted” on the Safer Illinois app (or via the COVID-19 Boarding Pass option) in order to gain access.

The Library’s new catalog is expected to launch on June 24. It will offer the discovery (or, ability to search) and delivery of the Library’s collection of scholarly resources through an enhanced single search interface. In addition, the new catalog supports Single Sign-on, so university patrons will be able to use their NetID and NetID password to access their account and request materials.
