Learning history by experiencing it! 📚

Dr. Ambie Watson’s Elementary Education Social Studies Methods students visited the VSU Archives and Special Collections at Odum Library today, where they explored primary sources and learned how archives can help bring history to life in the elementary classroom.

The visit also included a fun lesson in technology history when Dr. Watson introduced some students to an important artifact from the not-so-distant past—the floppy disk! 💾 Yes, that little icon they click to “save” their work actually represents something teachers once held in their hands. 😄

Experiences like these help our future educators make meaningful connections between the past, the present, and the students they will one day teach.

Dr. Ambie Watson’s Elementary Education Social Studies Methods students had the opportunity to visit Valdosta State University’s Copeland African American Museum. Having opportunities like these to learn more about African American History and local stories help future educators see the value in local museums and resources to help bring history to life for their future students.

🇮🇪 Ireland Study Abroad students wrap up their program with an awards ceremony. Grateful with our partnership with SETU and Paraic Fanning for another successful program.

🇮🇪 Students from Ireland Study Abroad have been busy as they finished up their Irish classes with sports and food courses. They spent an evening together enjoying authentic Irish food and learning Irish dance. The last few days have been spent visiting Kilkenny, Dublin, and Kildare. They have had opportunities to visit cathedrals, castles, and abbeys learning more about the rich Irish history.

🇮🇪 Students from Ireland Study Abroad have received expert instruction from SETU faculty in the areas of history, culture, and media, complemented by visits to castles in Tipperary, where they gained insight into medieval defense structures.

🇮🇪 Students from Ireland Study Abroad gained insight into the Viking Triangle, visiting its starting point and learning about the historical Norman invasion while viewing long-hidden religious vestments.
