CONGRATS to Creative Writing alum Sarah Wang on her debut novel!

Punk made outsiders visible. This exhibition makes that visible too. Co-curated by Graphic Design faculty and alum Michael Worthington.

This month, a new exhibition co-curated by Graphic Design faculty Michael Worthington (Art MFA 95) opened at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles.

OUTSIDERS, OUTCASTS, REBELS + WEIRDOS: PUNK CULTURE 1976-86 features more than 500 objects and pieces of ephemera, including handmade flyers, posters, zines, photographs, video, clothing, and artifacts connected to influential punk figures and bands.

The exhibition examines punk as a visual and cultural movement, with particular focus on the relationship between Jewish musicians and the punk scene.

Worthington describes punk as "a way to find your own voice and your own tribe."

Calling on our Bay Area alums: We hope you can join us for a special walkthrough of THE LONG MIDDLE, the latest exhibition by Ranu Mukherjee, Dean of the School of Film/Video, at Gallery Wendi Norris in San Francisco.

Following the walkthrough, we’ll gather at High Horse for a drink and light bites hosted by CalArts Alumni Engagement in partnership with Alumni Council member Perry Meigs (Art MFA 98). Guests are welcome to attend either portion of the event—or both!

For three decades, Mukherjee has questioned Western and human-centric narratives, imagining a more tender and attentive way of relating to the world. Her new body of work merges the autobiographical with the political, ecological, and geological—linking the pressures of mid-life, motherhood, and personal transformation with the threats of climate crisis, resource extraction, and species loss.

Cheers to dance alum Spencer Lenain who was in sombr’s debut set at Coachella!

From CalArts to Coachella stage, we’re giving a big round of applause to alum Spencer Lenain (Dance BFA 24), who performed with the ballet cast in sombr’s sets.

Across both weekends of one of the most high-profile festivals, Lenain performed with the rapidly rising rocker on his latest single, “Potential,” to a massive crowd that stretched to the outer edges of the field.

Cheers to our alums featured in this new exhibition at the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery!

Now showing: HEAVY METAL, a new exhibition at the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery in Barnsdall Art Park that features five CalArts alumni.

Curated by Nancy Meyer, the exhibition explores explores new sculptural languages through a feminist lens. Among the exhibition’s 20 artists are alums Claire Chambless (Art MFA 20), Beatriz Cortez (Art MFA 15), Ting Ying Han (Art MFA 13), Andrea Hidalgo (Art MFA 13), and Kelly Wall (Art MFA 19).
