Some students want to build innovative solutions and get their hands dirty. Others want to lead teams and drive strategy. At Valparaiso University, integrated business and engineering (IBE) students learn how to do both.

This unique program combines coursework from the internationally accredited Valparaiso University College of Business and highly ranked College of Engineering to prepare students for careers that bridge technical innovation and business leadership. Through hands-on projects, internships, case competitions, collaboration with local companies, and access to state-of-the-art engineering labs and the Innovation Hub, students graduate ready to adapt, lead, and thrive across industries.

By Commencement, graduates are prepared for careers in areas such as product development, manufacturing, operations, logistics, analytics, project management, and technical sales — giving them the versatility to move confidently between engineering and business environments.

In a world where industries increasingly rely on professionals who can understand both the technical and strategic side of complex problems, Valpo’s IBE program offers a distinctive path forward.

At Valparaiso University, collaboration across disciplines is creating life-changing impact for children and families in Northwest Indiana.

Through GoBabyGo Valpo, students from the College of Engineering and Valparaiso University College of Nursing & Health Professions work together to design customized adaptive vehicles for children with mobility challenges at no cost to families. Occupational therapy students evaluate each child’s needs and therapeutic goals, while engineering students translate those needs into personalized mechanical and design solutions that increase independence, participation, and quality of life.

For many families, these vehicles represent far more than mobility — they create opportunities for children to explore their environments, interact more fully with the world around them, and experience everyday moments of childhood in new ways.

The Valparaiso University College of Nursing & Health Professions’ entry-level occupational therapy doctorate (OTD) program is preparing future practitioners to lead, serve, and engage.

Through evidence-based practice, interprofessional learning, fieldwork experiences across multiple areas of practice, and a curriculum grounded in scholarship, service, community engagement, and leadership, students gain the skills to help people fully participate in everyday life.

With our first OTD cohort having graduated this May, we’re proud to see students stepping into the profession ready to advocate for diverse populations, provide therapeutic interventions, collaborate across healthcare teams, and serve communities with integrity and care.

Valpo’s accredited OTD program is also the only entry-level doctoral program of its kind serving the Northwest Indiana region, creating meaningful opportunities for students to make an impact close to home and beyond.

What can be learned by living alongside students in the residence halls?

In a new Chicago Tribune guest column, Valparaiso University president Rev. Brian Konkol, Ph.D., reflects on spending nights in the residence halls during his first semester as president — gaining insight into student life through late-night conversations, shared community, and everyday moments on campus. His experience offers a thoughtful perspective on connection, leadership, and the value of being fully present in the places where students live and grow.
