Not five years ago, most of Hollywood danced around the funeral pyres of legacy media and linear formats, touting that only streaming mattered. Flash forward to today, and the studios are desperately grasping at trying to bring back legacy media models for their long term, admittedly much crippled, revenue streams. This is good news, especially given that legacy formats still dominate in the rest of the world.

Of course this was inevitable. Thunderbolts is super competent, with solid performances, a script that doesn't seem to have been rewritten after it was shot, and hits all of the dramatic beats it is supposed to. It is also nothing new, continues to fulfill checkbox casting, and relies on being impressive rather than emotionally engaging. And that is why its global box office isn't any better than It Ends With Us.

Disney's MCU is at an inflection point. With "Thunderbolts*" the latest box office disappointment, will Marvel continue to back riskier stand-alones?

The deal between Comcast and Disney for Hulu finally closed. Somewhat contrary to the hyperbolic headline, the estimates had always been approximately $9BN for the remaining shares.

Disney closed its deal with Comcast to buy out NBCUniversal's one-third stake in Hulu -- paying much less than NBCU sought.
