Here's what you HAVE to do...

👉 disrupt the pattern

If your pitch, pace, melody, volume, tone, and physical presentation are always predictable, you've made it easier for your jurors' brains to tune you out.

✔️Change your pace.
✔️Shift your pitch.
✔️Play with volume.
✔️Change your tone.

Create a little novelty.

Not theatrically. Not cartoonishly.
Strategically.

Be still.
Breathe.
Resist the urge to fill the silence.

You don't have to fill every silence.

In depos or cross, stillness and sustained eye contact can create strategic space for a witness to continue talking.

In voir dire, resisting the urge to immediately rephrase a question or call on someone can give jurors the opportunity to step into the silence themselves.

The skill isn't simply staying quiet.

It's learning to stay physically and emotionally comfortable while you're quiet, and using your breath to keep your own nervous system regulated while you hold the space.

Did you choose a Word-of-the-Year to start 2026? How's it working out for you?

TBH, I totally forgot what I'd chosen. haha! Whoops! BUT...

I just looked it up and ACTION was my word. So, I'm pleased to see that I'm living it out. Maybe in some different ways than I intended, but...I'm totally doing it.

That was a fun little boost for me today. ;o)

Let me know your word, and if...
- you're totally living it out with intention
- you forgot too and are pleasantly surprised
- the word you chose at the start of the year no longer resonates, or you needed to chose a different word
- meh, this exercise doesn't really do it for me

Waiting for motivation often keeps us stuck.

It feels so counter-intuitive, but...
ACTION --> INSPIRATION --> MOTIVATION.

So let's stop trying to get motivated first.
Taking small, completed actions builds momentum and confidence.

In the communication tip section, I'm highlighting how jurors don't automatically become a cohesive group simply because they're seated together.

YOU have to intentionally foster trust and collaboration during voir dire through simple group-forming activities.
