On behalf of VC SHPE and VC SACNAS,

This year we will be hosting our end-of-the-year social, “Ugly Sweater” we also wanted to give back to a local organization by collecting donations for Women and Children.

“Share Warmth” by donating a Coat or Sweater. Benefits are for women and children in shelter at Lighthouse, Ventura County Rescue Mission.

So what’s happening? Our First annual coat and sweater drive to share warmth with women and children at Lighthouse, Ventura County Rescue Mission
And what do we need? Donations of clean, gently used, and new women’s and children’s fall and winter coats and sweaters
When? Starts Monday, December 6 when we start accepting coat and sweater donations at VC MESA Center, and ends Thursday, December 15,@ 4 pm.

We will continue our group college applications, this time focusing on essays! Come get your apps knocked out and/ ask about how YOU can get involved in leaderSHPE for the semesters to come! Those of you attending SHPE National Conference can come by and ask questions, what to pack, itinerary, etc!

⚛CSU Channel Islands Science Carnival 2019⚛

Please consider participating for the 11th Annual CSU Channel Island Science Carnival.

The event will be hosted at Rio Vista Junior High, 3050 Thames River Drive, Oxnard, CA.

When will it happen:
November 2, 2019 from 4pm-8pm
Volunteers are expected to arrive by 3pm to help with setting up booths.

Here is an excerpt from the organizer on additional information from the Science Carnival:
The FREE Science Carnival, held annually the Saturday after Halloween, provides hands-on science experiences for K – 8 grade students and their parents with the goal of increasing students’ interest in science and in pursuing science in their future education. Fall 2018 will be the tenth year of the Science Carnival and it will be held at Rio Vista Middle School, 3050 Thames River Drive, Oxnard, CA from 4 – 8 PM on Saturday, November 2, 2019. The FREE event has a Halloween/ spooky science theme with over 110 hands-on science activities conducted by CI faculty and students and by community members. Parking is provided free of charge at the site and at Pacifica High School (shuttle provided).

Our One Year Revival anniversary event was such an amazing success!

Our Region 2 Vice President Leo Soto spoke to our students about his journey with SHPE, how he grew into his position in leaderSHPE, and a little bit about Boeing! Everyone asked some really great questions! It was also great seeing so new and familiar faces from our friends at Oxnard College SHPE🤝

The board surprised me with flowers and a list of notes from people who played a part in the revival of SHPE and it's growth! Of course I cried and I cried later reading the letters. I am beyond grateful for everything my board, our members, faculty, and SHPE has done for me, and I will continue to do what I can to help everyone grow and achieve their goals!

The resume workshop led by the VC Professional chapter was very informative and helpful to students looking to prepare for the upcoming SHPE National Conference next week and for those preparing for RLDC in spring! We really appreciate the constant support from leaderSHPE.

🍽 Also.. the tamales were BOMB 💣 🤤

We'll have a similar event to this planned for spring, so keep coming to the meetings!

P.A.S.S (Professional Academic Student Success) at the University of Santa Barbara was a great success! Our students attended workshops such as negotiating, working/ interning for Google, getting our jumpstart account started, and resume tips and tricks to stand out! We also were able to network with professionals in industry, participate in mock interviews, as well has have a one on one critique of resumes.

After the event we were able to mingle with all attendees at a bbq down at Goleta Beach!

This was truly an amazing event and we are very much looking forward to it again!

Yesterday a few of our SHPE members went to UCSB to take tour along side with , and ! They gained knowledge about the school and what it can offer them. Many of our SHPE members are wanting to transfer to UCSB and we are glad to see that they got a chance to take a look at the campus!
