In 1980, Florida Institute of Technology (FIT) acquired property in Vero Beach, Florida, to develop an ocean-site marine research laboratory. The location of the facility allows researchers to have access to filtered Atlantic seawater year-round. A wide variety of aquaculture tank systems are available for research and production purposes. The facility’s four acre oceanfront property has a main b

uilding that includes a marine laboratory, classroom, conference room, and offices. The facility is administered by Florida Tech and serves as a regional research facility available to university faculty, graduate students, and non-university investigators. Several aquaculture companies have a research collaborative agreement with FIT and are using the site to develop aquaculture technologies for marine food and ornamental species.
