Kentucky Community & Technical College System

Kentucky Community & Technical College System For most Kentuckians, higher education begins at the Kentucky Community and Technical College System.

The Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) is the only community college system in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. KCTCS was created by the Kentucky Postsecondary Education Improvement Act of 1997 (House Bill 1). Our 16 colleges and over 70 campuses are deeply rooted in the educational history and tradition of Kentucky. July 1, 2008, marked the 10th anniversary of the unification of

Kentucky’s postsecondary community colleges and technical institutions, some dating back to the early 1900’s.

As Nurses Week comes to a close, we take time to reflect and celebrate the compassion, skill and dedication of nurses who care for Kentucky’s communities.

The Kentucky Community & Technical College System is proud to help strengthen the commonwealth’s healthcare workforce by awarding:

• 60% of Kentucky’s nursing and allied health credentials.
• 89% of Kentucky’s associate degrees in nursing and allied health.

From classrooms and labs, to hospitals and clinics across Kentucky, our students are preparing to make a life-changing impact where it matters most.

Thank you to every nurse, nursing student, and healthcare professional for the care and commitment you bring to the commonwealth.

Last Thursday at Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College, we saw exactly what “KCTCS for KY” is all about.
When employers, business leaders, government partners, and community organizations come together with a shared purpose, something powerful happens. We align around opportunity. We listen. We build. And most importantly, we move Kentucky forward together.

This forum wasn’t just a conversation, it was a commitment. A commitment to keep our programs relevant, responsive, and impactful for today’s students and tomorrow’s workforce.

We are saddened by the passing of P.G. Peeples, a respected leader and advocate for education and opportunity across the Commonwealth.

A graduate of Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College and former chair of the KCTCS Board of Regents, Peeples dedicated his life to strengthening communities and expanding access to education.

We are grateful for his service to KCTCS and the lasting impact he made on students and communities across Kentucky.

At the Kentucky Community and Technical College System, we know that student success doesn’t happen by chance. It’s built through access, innovation, and an unwavering commitment to outcomes.

That’s why we’re proud to celebrate West Kentucky Community & Technical College being named a semifinalist for the 2027 Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence, one of the nation’s most prestigious recognitions for community colleges.

As a semifinalist, WKCTC is competing for a share of $1 million in prize funds awarded by the Aspen Institute College Excellence Program, which honors institutions leading the country in student success, from completion and transfer to workforce outcomes.

When our colleges succeed, Kentucky succeeds, and WKCTC is showing the nation what that looks like.

We're proud to celebrate what student success truly looks like.

At Jefferson Community & Technical College, this year’s Student Success Awards reminded us why our mission matters. Nearly 40 students were nominated, each with a story of determination, resilience, and achievement that inspires all of us.

Jefferson Community & Technical College also honored a milestone moment, celebrating the 10th anniversary of their Academic Team’s 2016 National Championship - a legacy of excellence that continues to shape who we are today.

To every honoree, you represent the very best of what’s possible when opportunity meets hard work. The future is brighter because of you.

Accelerating student success and strengthening Kentucky’s workforce pipeline are a driving force behind Kentucky Community and Technical College (KCTCS) and Northern Kentucky University’s (NKU) new transfer partnership, designed to remove education barriers for today’s student, and the future of the Commonwealth.

From classroom to career, this agreement changes the landscape of higher education by building bridges that ensure students don’t just transfer, they thrive.
