UVU-based Center for Constitutional Studies at UVU held its first out-of-state civics training May 27 for 26 K–12 teachers at UCCS.

Funded by a U.S. Department of Education grant, the instruction and discussion on the Declaration of Independence and Constitution provided resources for teachers to better teach about the American founding in the classroom.

First observed as Decoration Day in 1868 and officially named Memorial Day by Congress in 1971, this day honors those in the U.S. Armed Forces who have given their lives in fulfilling their oath to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.”

On Memorial Day, flags are flown at half-staff (half-mast at sea) from sunrise until noon and then raised to full staff for the remaining hours of daylight.

The Center for Constitutional Studies at UVU salutes these fallen heroes, their families, and their descendants.

"The most useful lens I’ve found for thinking about this comes from a recent book by Hyrum Lewis and Verlan Lewis called 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙈𝙮𝙩𝙝 𝙤𝙛 𝙇𝙚𝙛𝙩 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙍𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩," wrote the American Institute for Economic Research - AIER's Matt Zwolinski May 20.

"The Lewis brothers argue that 'left' and 'right' aren’t coherent ideologies. They’re tribes—coalitions whose positions shift across time and place because the tribes come first and the philosophies get reverse-engineered to fit."
