Professor Chris Jaeger recently presented his latest scholarship, “A Two-System Theory of Negligence,” at the Harvard/Stanford/Yale Junior Faculty Forum at Yale Law School. Selected through a competitive national review process, he joined a small group of emerging legal scholars from across the country. His paper uses cognitive psychology, including the work of Nobel Prize-winning Daniel Kahneman and Amos Tversky, to examine how negligence law treats fast, instinctive thought processes differently from deliberate ones. Professor Dyllan Taxman has recently been featured in media coverage for his scholarship on parental criminal liability, with outlets seeking his insight on this evolving area of law. He has been interviewed by CNN and appeared on BBC Radio 4’s Today program and BBC Radio 5 Live. In honor of Memorial Day, Baylor Law School welcomed Judge Wade Faulkner (JD ’01), of the 478th Judicial District Court of Bell County, for a moving address reflecting on the life and sacrifice of Major Michael Martinez, a JAG officer who volunteered for service in Iraq.

Sponsored by the Military and Veterans Legal Society and the Community Engagement and Belonging Office, the program challenged future lawyers to see the legal profession as more than a career, but as a calling rooted in integrity, responsibility, and service to others.

Baylor Law School was honored to host the Joint Convocation of the Tenth Court of Appeals and the Waco-McLennan County Bar Association for the 2026 Bar Memorial in the Jim Kronzer Appellate Advocacy Courtroom.

Justices Matt Johnson, Steve Smith, and Lee Harris, JD ’93, presided over the proceedings, joined by Senior Assistant Dean Angela Cruseturner, incoming president of the Waco-McLennan County Bar Association, who delivered remarks, an invocation, and later led the adoption of resolutions. Dean Jeremy Counseller participated in honoring Professor Louis S. Muldrow.

The service included a remembrance of the following Baylor Lawyers, whose lives and service left a lasting impact on the profession: Justice Robert Maurice Campbell, JD ’64, Judge David Lee Hodges, JD ’73, Charles Alfred Mackenzie, BA ’87, JD ’91, Professor Louis S. Muldrow, JD ’58, Shepherd Spencer Neville, III, JD ’70, Judge Tommy Lee Ragland, JD ’65, Justice Felipe Saenz Reyna, BA ’68, JD ’72, and Judge Walter S. Smith, Jr., JD ’66.
