From concept to creation and special delivery, designers and photographers must develop compelling work to stand out in today’s competitive advertising market. To succeed in this field, you must be able to capture a viewer’s attention in traditional print and digital media, such as newspapers, magazines and electronic communications. Texas State Technical College leads students from the sketchbook
through the creative studio and to the use of computer software with its Visual Communication & Design program. Students learn how to effectively capture an audience using digital photography and design concepts that demonstrate their abilities to produce successful photo sessions, magazine ads, brochures, posters, electronic publishing, websites and more. TSTC offers two, six-semester associate degree paths in Communication Design or Digital Photography. The Design program specializes in concept development and critical thinking for use in design. Students learn in-depth development of brand identity and creating collateral design for both print and electronic delivery. The Digital Photography program emphasizes the technical and practical aspects of preparing camera-ready art for production and delivery of print and digital mediums. Students learn commercial photography, both in studio and on location. Both degrees include a solid framework of courses that lead to effective and advanced design, imaging manipulation and advertisement assignments. Students will learn many of today’s digital illustration, visual design and image retouching programs such as Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Lightroom and others.
