Join us in celebrating Jessie Carver, our 2026 MSW Outstanding Student! 🐻💚

Throughout her time at Baylor Social Work, Jessie has demonstrated exceptional leadership, academic excellence, and a deep commitment to serving children, families, and communities through trauma-informed and culturally responsive care.

One reflection from Jessie that stood out to us:

“I am proud that I have learned to rest, to value myself outside of what I do, and how, with the help of my friends and community, I have been able to break some generational cycles in my family.”

From impactful practicum experiences and research contributions to supporting youth through clinical practice, Jessie embodies the heart of social work and the power of lifelong learning.

Congratulations, Jessie, on this well-deserved recognition! ✨

From providing trauma-informed care at Texas Children’s Hospital to advocating for children and families with empathy, research, and resilience, Denise has embodied the heart of social work throughout her internship.

“Social work allows me to combine compassion, advocacy, clinical practice, research, and systems change in a way that creates meaningful impact for individuals, families, and communities.” ✨

As a first-generation student and future PhD student at the University of Houston, Denise continues to inspire us through her commitment to healing, equity, and systems change.

This semester, our students got to experience social work beyond the walls of an office through their eco social work internship at Da’Shack in Waco 🌱💚

From gardening and composting to wellness conversations and community engagement, students worked alongside local schools, churches, and community spaces to explore how food, sustainability, mental health, and relationships all connect.

Through this hands-on practicum, they learned that social work can happen anywhere people are cultivating hope, healing, and community. We are so proud of the meaningful work these students accomplished this semester and the impact they continue to make from the ground up. 🌎🐻

May is also which reminds us that seeking support is a sign of strength.

Baylor students have access to resources, including Counseling Center services, wellness programs, and spiritual support across campus, because no one should navigate life’s challenges alone.
