At 12 years old, she walked into a bank, signed her name, and took out a loan to buy her first cow.

That early courage and years of hard work on a 300-acre farm in Hardy, Arkansas shaped Janna Himschoot into the business professor and lifework mentor she is today. Her first episode on the Lifework Podcast is now live.

In this conversation with WBU President Dr. Stan Norman, Janna traces how God used farm chores, faithful parents, a tiny country church, and a life-changing encounter at Girl State to form her calling to business, motherhood, and eventually the classroom. It’s a story of simple obedience, steady work, and a deep desire to build a life around faith, family, and serving others.

Williams Baptist University exists to cultivate Christ-centered leaders who make a difference through their lifework in their churches, workplaces, communities and families for years to come. When we invite a new class of students to campus, we are welcoming partners in that mission.

Today we had the joy of celebrating an incredible group of new Eagles at our VIP registration event. They came from small towns and big cities across Arkansas, Missouri, Tennessee, Michigan, Oklahoma and beyond, each carrying a unique story and a sense of calling for what comes next. Their majors stretch from education, business and psychology to ministry, the sciences, music, agribusiness and more.

We were honored to recognize these students for academic achievement, work ethic, leadership and excellence in the classroom, on the field, in the gym and on the stage. From academic awards to Williams Works, performing arts and athletic scholarships, this group has already shown they are willing to work hard and steward their gifts well.

The day was about more than awards. Families celebrated together as students created class schedules, received student IDs and learned about housing assignments. Future Eagles met future best friends and roommates and began to see that this campus will soon feel like home.

As you scroll through these photos, you are seeing future teachers, pastors, coaches, counselors, worship leaders, entrepreneurs and servant leaders who will carry Christ into every corner of the world they touch. To every new student who joined us today, thank you for your presence and warmth. Welcome to the family, new Eagles. We cannot wait for the fall semester to begin.

There are some people on this campus whose quiet faithfulness changes the whole atmosphere of a room. For us at WBU, one of those people is our professor of mathematics, Belina Dulaney.

As one coworker put it, “Belina has a servant’s heart and a passion for helping others succeed. Whether she’s tutoring students long after class ends, encouraging those around her, or pouring into her family as a devoted wife and mom, she consistently goes above and beyond. Her kindness, selflessness, and willingness to help others make a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know her.”

Another shared, “Belina has the biggest heart for students. She embodies the Williams Way – with a clear Christ-centered purpose for her life, displaying unwavering tenacity in teaching, having a courageous faith she lives everyday, demonstrating selfless sacrifice of time and energy, and living a life of work as mission in her dedication to the students at Williams.”

We see that spirit across campus. A colleague told us, “Belina Dulaney is one of the selfless people I know. Her kindness and compassion extends from the classroom to the entire university community.” Another added, “Belina has the ability to take a difficult subject (math) and make it relatable. Her commitment to WBU’s mission is second to none. It’s a pleasure to work with her on a daily basis.”

In part two of her Lifework Podcast conversation, Belina shares how God gently overruled her “I’m never going to teach” plans, walked with her through the pressures of being a young mom and first-generation college student, and led her from a high school classroom to Williams. She talks honestly about pouring herself out for her students, holding them to high expectations because she believes they are capable, and helping them heal from years of believing they are “bad at math.”

If you’ve ever sat in her class, you already know what a gift she is to our students and our community. If you haven’t, we hope you’ll listen in and hear why we’re so grateful God brought Belina to Williams.

53 years ago, Ken Lewis started his college journey. This weekend, he finished it. 🎓🦅

At Saturday’s commencement ceremony at WBU, Lewis walked across the stage to receive the diploma he had dreamed about since first enrolling in 1973 when WBU was still Southern Baptist College.

Life moved forward. Careers were built. Years passed. But one goal quietly remained unfinished.

Until now.

“It feels like a great accomplishment,” Lewis said. “It’s something I’ve always wanted to do.”

His story moved many in attendance because it wasn’t just about earning a degree — it was about perseverance, unfinished dreams, and refusing to give up on something that mattered deeply.

President Dr. Stan Norman recognized Lewis during the ceremony for embodying determination and lifelong learning.

Congratulations, Ken. Your story inspired us all!
