"The Latin American and Latino Studies (LALS) Program at Brandeis offers an interdisciplinary major and minor. The Program draws on faculty in nine departments in the school of Arts and Sciences as well as in the Heller School for Social Policy and Management and the International Business School. Although individual classes might emphasize local and regional studies, the LALS major and minor move

s beyond a particular area to view communities and regions as embedded within global processes" (http://www.brandeis.edu/programs/lals/about.html).

In the spring we will be offering a class designed for Heritage speakers (Hisp108), students who have typically learned to speak Spanish at home (not as a second language) and who can communicate in the language but lack a formal "training". The course satisfies the language requirement and is designed to discuss topics of interest to heritage speakers in the USA. It also counts for the minor and the major in Hispanic Studies. Our students need to be able to understand spoken Spanish and communicate in the language, but they do not need to be as proficient in Spanish as they are in English. We will practice reading and writing in more academic contexts.

Schedule will be (remote) Mondays and Wednesday 2:00-3:30pm with Professor Raysa Mederos. Contact [email protected] for more information!
