The Richard Saivetz '69 Memorial Architectural Lecture presents "Exhibiting Atrocity: Confronting Slavery in Museums and Memorials" - featuring esteemed guest lecturer Prof. Amy Sodaro, Borough of Manhattan Community College, CUNY.

Over the last decade, new museums and memorials focused on slavery and its legacies have been created in the US. Drawing inspiration from global commemorative forms, they work to challenge the national narrative on slavery and link historical slavery to contemporary racial injustice. This talk will examine how these spaces negotiate the politics of this difficult memory and the challenges they face.

Join us for The Richard Saivetz ’69 Memorial Architectural Lecture featuring Haim Yacobi, Professor of Development Planning at University College London (UCL).

When: February 11 from 4:00 PM - 5:30 PM
Where: Rapaporte Treasure Hall

"Architecture, Everyday Life and the Urban Geopolitics of Jerusalem" explores how planning, architecture, and urban design shape Jerusalem’s imagined colonial geographies beyond military occupation and exclusionary policy. Situating Jerusalem within a broader geopolitical framework, the talk examines how architecture operates as a form of control in settler societies. Drawing on archival research, interviews, and fieldwork, Haim Yacobi discusses how power, protest, and spatial counter-products intersect in the production of urban space and the politics of the built environment.

FREE and open to the public. No RSVP required. All are welcome!

We are incredibly proud to announce that Professor of Fine Arts Sónia Almeida has been named the recipient of the Wagner Foundation Boston Artadia Award!

In a remarkable season of recognition, Sónia was also recently honored as a Brother Thomas Fellow. These accolades follow her 2024 Guggenheim Fellowship, which has cemented her status as a leading voice in contemporary art.

Born in Lisbon and based in Boston, Sónia’s work investigates how visual language is learned, shared, and adapted. Through painting, printmaking, and book arts, she explores the limits of historical codes and the mechanics of agency and power.
