At next week's Grace Hopper Celebration (GHC) in Chicago, Emmanuella Acheampong, MSBA’25 will present her research on identity theft in the U.S. banking sector.
The GHC is the world’s largest gathering of women and non-binary technologists, bringing together thousands of academics, professionals and industry leaders to share research, innovations and career opportunities.
Emmanuella's research was completed during her final semester at Brandeis.
"In my talk, I highlight how demographic and geographic factors shape vulnerability to fraud and demonstrate how this research naturally transitions into real-world applications," says Emmanuella. "I'll also touch on my current research, which focuses on building a multilingual, geographically contextual fraud dataset, designed to detect scams across diverse languages, dialects and cultural cues — an area often ignored by traditional fraud detection models."
Emmanuella has stayed busy since graduating from the MSBA program. She served as a reviewer for both GHC and the Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences, one of the world's premier information systems events. In August, she was awarded first place in the Student Academic Research Showcase at the INFORMS Regional Analytics Conference in Atlanta. And earlier this year, she shared insights about fraud detection using AI and machine learning at Brandeis University's Global Cybersecurity Conference.
