Masonry in action once again. Our Worshipful Master, Brad Horn went to Warrenton Grade School to present the bikes given in the Oregon Freemasonry Bikes for Books Program.
WB Brad pulled names out of a hat for the 2 assemblies, one for the K-3 and one for the 4-6 grades.
A total of 6 bikes and 5 razor scooters were won by the students.

Here is the email from the Vice principal outlining how Creating-a- Partnership has helped the students:

Mr. Horn and Mason's,

We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude for supporting our young students in their reading journey. The Bikes for Books program is a highlight of the school year, eagerly anticipated by our students. At the beginning of the year, all of our students set reading goals, and those who achieve them are entered into a drawing to win these bikes and scooters. This program serves as a fantastic incentive, encouraging student progress in reading.

We hope you enjoyed the assembly. The joy on the students' faces was truly heartwarming as they were recognized for their hard work and dedication throughout the year.

Once again, thank you so much for your support.

--

History of Freemasonry

No one knows with certainty how or when the Masonic Fraternity was formed. A widely accepted theory among Masonic scholars is that it arose from the stonemasons' guilds during the Middle Ages. The language and symbols used in the fraternity's rituals come from this era. The oldest document that makes reference to Masons is the Regius Poem, printed about 1390, which was a copy of an earlier work. In 1717, four lodges in London formed the first Grand Lodge of England, and records from that point on are more complete.

Within thirty years, the fraternity had spread throughout Europe and the American Colonies. Freemasonry became very popular in colonial America. George Washington was a Mason, Benjamin Franklin served as the head of the fraternity in Pennsylvania, as did Paul Revere and Joseph Warren in Massachusetts. Other well-known Masons involved with the founding of America included John Hancock, John Sullivan, Lafayette, Baron Fredrick von Stuben, Nathanael Greene, and John Paul Jones. Another Mason, Chief Justice John Marshall, shaped the Supreme Court into its present form.

Over the centuries, Freemasonry has developed into a worldwide fraternity emphasizing personal study, self-improvement, and social betterment via individual involvement and philanthropy. During the late 1700s it was one of the organizations most responsible for spreading the ideals of the Enlightenment: the dignity of man and the liberty of the individual, the right of all persons to worship as they choose, the formation of democratic governments, and the importance of public education. Masons supported the first public schools in both Europe and America.

During the 1800s and early 1900s, Freemasonry grew dramatically. At that time, the government had provided no social "safety net". The Masonic tradition of founding orphanages, homes for widows, and homes for the aged provided the only security many people knew.

Today in North America, the Masonic Fraternity continues this tradition by giving almost $1.5 million each day to causes that range from operating children's hospitals, providing treatment for childhood language disorders, treating eye diseases, funding medical research, contributing to local community service, and providing care to Masons and their families at Masonic Homes.

The four million Masons worldwide continue to help men and women face the problems of the 21st century by building bridges of brotherhood and instilling in the hearts of men ideals for a better tomorrow.

Oregon Masons Email Targeted

Today, Thursday August 24, 2023, email accounts for many Masons were sent a message asking for them to respond via email.
DO NOT RESPOND TO THE MESSAGE BY REPLYING WITH EMAIL!
*PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT THE GRAND LODGE. THEY ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM.
The subject line says "Greetings Brother (Your Name)". The body of the email reads thusly: "Hello, Are you less busy at the moment? I got a request for you to manage discreetly. I will be going into a meeting shortly, please no calls so kindly respond back via email.Fraternally,Brother Craig Sipp (or other known individual)Grand Master (or other title)"

It has been determined that this is the most current phishing attempt is coming from "[email protected]", but there have been multiple versions to include varieties including the words "Mason, Master, Worshipful, Grand and a series of numbers.

Gateway Lodge has taken steps to exclude that user from any future emails. This has been an ongoing issue with our lodge and we have been receiving emails like this for the last year.

*If you have replied to the email and are unsure as to what to do, you may contact me by telephone and I will help you. Most likely the person who did this is attempting to collect email addresses of Masons to use in some anti-Masonic way. There was no virus or malware attached to the email message. The sender will try to get anyone who responds to buy gift cards for "brothers to encourage them to return to lodge" and will ask you to use your own finances to do so. Then they will ask you to send them photos of the front, back and codes on the cards. They also include a promise of being personally reimbursed by the Master.

At no time will any official of our Lodge or Grand Lodge contact you by email to ask you to purchase anything like this. If you receive any email like this, report as spam and please contact The Master, myself and the lodge Secretary so we can get notice out to the lodge.
