I grew up in a suburb of Chicago, a place called Evanston. Evanston is a town full of culture and diversity. We had the big city right next to us and a fantastic University (Northwestern) residing in our wonderful city. Many of the houses in the area ranged from new to old. We had the odd metal house down the street from us to a house made from concrete. Our house was an old, late 1800's house wit

h a lot of character. It needed constant attention to keep the old bones healthy. My father worked tirelessly not only to keep everything working but to renovate and restore much of the house. So I grew up learning many crafts. One of the crafts that my father passed on to me was woodworking. I found the joy in making something with my own hands. Unfortunately my access to tools went away when I left for college. It wasn't until later in life when my wife and I were finally able to set down roots here in Northern Virginia that I was able to start growing my workshop. Its not easy moving a 400lb. table saw from place to place. I decided to start my own company after I had friends and neighbors approach me to make furniture for them. I have made items from bedroom furniture to grandfather clocks to built in cabinets. Lately I have been concentrating my efforts on pen making. It becomes a challenge to pack beauty and style into a short segment of wood and I enjoy a challenge. I hope you enjoy my work.

I have just uploaded pictures of my latest project. This labor of love was three segmented vases made from Walnut, Maple, Padauk, Katalox, and Cherry. The design was inspired by American Indian pottery found in the southwest. Thanks for looking and let me know what you think.

Wood Turning Projects

03/08/2017

Well folks, it has been a while since I have posted anything and I am sorry for that. I confess I am not very good at making posts and communicating what I have been doing lately. I have just uploaded a picture into the bowls collection. I made this about a year ago and I feel its one of my finer pieces to date. I hope you enjoy.

This lidded vessel is made from black locust. The lid is walnut with a black locust finial. The one thing I really love about this piece is the finish. It has a very smooth and silky finish that it begs to be touched and held.

This is the next in the line of lidded vessels I have recently made. This one is made from spalted beech, walnut and a maple finnial. It stands about 5 inches tall.

This bowl has been in the works for a while now. This 12 inch by 6 inch tall bowl was turned from a Pear tree. It then was set to dry for the last 6 months while I formulated exactly how I wanted it to look. The trees were then carved out and textured while the inside was smoothed and sanded. The whole piece was finished with an oil finish and then a very light coat of shellac.

Hey everyone, Just to let you know the new website is now live. Placing orders is a more enjoyable process I think. Let me know what you think, improvements, changes, spelling or grammatical errors (I'm sure there are many), or any suggestions on how to make it better. Thanks

This is Tree from a Tree. The wood is from a pear tree that was cut down in downtown Warrenton. The form was turned on the lathe and then the branches and roots were carved out. It stands 8 inches tall. The wood is unfinished in its natural state.

This is the result of a project that I have been working on for a while now. It started when I was at my friends house pilfering his firewood pile (he is very gracous for letting me do this). I found this one piece that is the result of a large branch being cut off and the bark had healed over the end. Most of the woods pith had rotted away but it remained cylindrical. I knew I wanted it to make something, but I wasnt quite sure what. It took a while before I was inspired and started the transformation of this piece. I ended up shaving off the one end so it was flat enough to mount a maple blank for the base. I was then able to turn it on the lathe and hollow it out as best it could be. Once again I am floored by natures beauty in the wood. I hope you like this one.
