🎓 Rising Senior Families: Summer Is the Time to Get Ahead

College applications may not officially open until August 1, but successful college planning starts long before that.

The summer before senior year is one of the best opportunities to get organized, reduce stress, and prepare for application season.

Students can begin working on:

✔️ Understanding the Common App and required sections
✔️ Organizing academic, testing, and activity information
✔️ Building a strong Activities Section that highlights leadership, impact, and growth
✔️ Brainstorming and planning the 650-word personal essay
✔️ Narrowing and refining a college list

The goal is not simply to “fill out applications”....it’s to tell a thoughtful, authentic story about who a student is and how they are positioned for success.

At AAA College Planning, we guide families through application strategy, essay planning, college list development, and staying organized throughout the process.

Starting early helps students feel confident, prepared, and far less overwhelmed once senior year begins.

Supplemental essays are quietly disappearing or being reduced at schools like University of Georgia and Tulane University as colleges adapt to the growing impact of AI in admissions. With ChatGPT making it harder to assess authentic student voice, many admissions offices are placing greater emphasis on the main Common App essay, academics, activities, interviews, and demonstrated interest instead.

🎓 EARLY DECISION IS CHANGING…

For years, Early Decision (ED) was something mostly associated with highly selective private colleges. Today, more public universities are beginning to adopt binding early admissions options, changing the way students and families should think about college strategy.

So, what does this mean?

📌 Early Decision = commitment.
Students apply earlier (usually in the fall of senior year) and agree to attend if accepted.

Unlike Early Action, which allows students to keep options open, Early Decision is binding.

Why are more colleges exploring this model?

✔️ Colleges want stronger enrollment predictability
✔️ Universities are managing record application numbers
✔️ Schools are looking for students who demonstrate a strong interest and fit
✔️ Admissions is becoming increasingly strategic

But here’s the important part:

Early Decision is NOT right for everyone.

Before applying ED, families should consider:

✅ Is this truly the student’s clear first-choice school?
✅ Are finances already understood and realistic?
✅ Is the student ready to commit early?
✅ Is the overall application strategy balanced?

A strong college strategy is about more than deadlines...it’s about timing, positioning, financial fit, and long-term planning.

At AAA College Planning, we help families build smart admissions strategies that align with each student’s academic goals, interests, and future plans. Whether it’s Early Decision, Early Action, testing timelines, essays, or college lists, thoughtful planning makes a difference.

🌟 INTRODUCING THE AAA OPPORTUNITY SCHOLARSHIP

This summer, we are excited to expand our mission by launching a pro bono college counseling initiative designed to support motivated students with personalized admissions guidance.

Because every student deserves access to opportunity.

This initiative is intended for students who may face:

✔ Limited access to college counseling resources
✔ First-generation college challenges
✔ Personal or family adversity
✔ Underrepresented experiences and perspectives
✔ Financial barriers to private admissions support

Selected students will receive:

✔ Strategic college planning
✔ Academic & extracurricular guidance
✔ SAT/ACT planning
✔ College list development
✔ Essay brainstorming & application support
✔ One-on-one mentorship throughout the admissions process

Our goal is not to replace school counselors, but to provide additional personalized support, structure, and guidance throughout the college journey.

At AAA, our mission has always been bigger than admissions.

It’s about creating opportunity, building confidence, and helping students reach their full potential.

🎓 Stop trying to do everything.

For selective colleges, it’s not about how many activities you do — it’s about how deeply you commit to the right ones.

Focus on:
✔ Activities you actually enjoy
✔ Long-term commitment
✔ Leadership + real responsibility
✔ Skills, growth, and impact
✔ Letting go of what doesn’t fit anymore

Freshman year = explore.
Later years = focus + depth.

And remember: jobs, family responsibilities, sports, volunteering, and passions ALL count.

Colleges don’t want “well-rounded.”
They want students who stand out for something real. 🎯

Dream Big. Achieve Bigger.

“Hoping for the best” is not a college admissions strategy.

Students change. Interests evolve. Career goals shift. And with the rising cost of college, families cannot afford to navigate the admissions process without a thoughtful plan.

College admissions today is about far more than simply submitting applications.

A strategic approach includes:
• Building a balanced college list
• Identifying scholarship and merit aid opportunities
• Developing a strong student resume over time
• Planning coursework and extracurricular involvement
• Creating a standardized testing plan for the SAT, ACT, and AP exams
• Managing timelines, essays, and deadlines
• Positioning students to present their strongest application possible

An experienced college admissions consultant helps families make informed decisions, reduce stress, and avoid costly mistakes during one of the biggest financial investments a family will make.

Preparation creates opportunities. Strategy creates options.
