This weekend marked two years since the arrest of ten veterans of the civil war - military and guerrilla veterans who came together in 2020 to form the Alliance for a Peaceful El Salvador - and of university student and communications volunteer for the group, Luis Menjivar.

For years the Alliance for a Peaceful El Salvador helped mobilize peaceful protests denouncing the Bukele government’s attacks on democracy and human rights and the achievements of the 1992 Peace Accords (which demilitarized Salvadoran society and brought an end to decades of dictatorial rule).
Two years ago, in the lead up to the inauguration of Nayib Bukele’s unconstitutional second term, these men were lured out of their homes and have been imprisoned since on unsubstantiated accusations that they were plotting violent attacks in protest.
June 14 is the upcoming deadline on their pre-trial detention. We call for their immediate release on humanitarian grounds because they suffer from complicated chronic illnesses.
Join us in contacting your members of Congress, several made public statements calling for their immediate release release of another beloved political prisoner, Ruth Lopez and today we are calling for and to US support for this regime!
