EALS 2024 is Tomorrow!🎉🥰

Registration begins at 8:00am with coffee, tea, and snacks. Our welcome address will start at 9:00am so make sure you give yourself ample time to sign in, caffeinate, and find a seat!

🅿️Parking: There is a garage below the Katzen building. Take the elevator up to Level 1 to find the main event in the Rotunda. Parking is free on the weekends!

🚌Metro & AU Shuttle Bus: Take the Red Line metro to Tenleytown-AU. The AU shuttle bus stops at the corner of Albemarle and 40th Streets. The shuttle runs on regular intervals and is free of charge.

🥗Lunch: Lunch tickets are available to purchase via Eventbrite. There are vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, dairy free, and nut free options available. Lunch tickets are $15 if purchased today, March 22nd, and $20 on the day of the event.

🤵‍♀️🤵Attire: Attendees tend to wear business casual, jeans, and everything in between! Ultimately, please dress however you’re most comfortable.

Meet our workshop leads!💛🎶🧘‍♀️

▫️Sofia Hailu is an artist, coach, and entrepreneur. Her experience as a full-time performer exposed her to the rigors of the creative industry. As an arts manager, Sofia honed the critical skill of collaboration. In her coaching practice, she brings curiosity and compassion, offering a dynamic balance of empathy and accountability.

▫️Carolina Bonilla is a professional dancer from Colombia. She has been dancing since the age of four, starting her dance journey with classical ballet, tap and jazz at a small dance studio in Mantua, New Jersey in 1993. She moved to Maryland in 1997 and focused her dance training on classical ballet at the Maryland Youth Ballet until 2007. Throughout her ballet career, Carolina stared in major roles such as “Flower Queen” in The Nutcracker and also competed in the Youth America Grand Prix. Due to an injury her senior year, Carolina was forced to give up her dream of becoming a prima ballerina and ended up finding a new passion-Ballroom dancing.

Meet our Panelists!

🔹Alejandro Góngora is the founder of Corazón Folklórico DC, a nonprofit dance company with the mission to create art with people and showcase Mexico’s cultural diversity and history. Currently a member of The Kennedy Center Culture Caucus Social Impact program, Alejandro leads this company of 50+ members as a means to create community with corazón (heart).

🔹Christine is an investigative reporter, who has had a long career writing for large U.S. newspapers. She has also held investigative reporting and writing fellowships and authored the book, “Green, Inc.” In 2011, she cofounded the DC nonprofit organization, Hola Cultura. As Hola Cultura’s Executive Director, she leads the organization’s Storytelling Program for Experiential Learning (SPEL), a story lab that brings together high school and college interns and young adult fellows to produce articles, podcasts and special research projects published on the Hola Cultura’s website.

🔹(Chacana) Karen Morales-Chacana Chilean-born actress, artivist, dancer, writer, director, and DMV teaching artist, she holds degrees in acting and education. As a member of World Dance, GALA Hispanic Theater, and Synetic Theater companies, she has enjoyed a 16-year career in the DC area, participating in over 90 plays across various venues such as Fringe Festival, RAW, Kennedy Center, Imagination Stage, Teatro de la Luna, The In Series, Spotlight Communications, Theater J, Bossa, Dance Loft 14th, Electric Mind, and Dance Exchange.

Erika Hawthorne is an artist, administrator and advocate who currently serves as the first Director of Advancement at Arts Administrators of Color Network. Having served on various cohorts and committees in its early years and serving in the Executive Board, she has deep rooted history with the organization.

Erika Hawthorne (she/her) brings over 10 years of experience in arts administration, funding, and community engagement roles spanning the nonprofit, government and business sectors. Erika leverages her expertise to champion human-centered leadership, build authentic relationships, facilitate collaboration, and advance social justice initiatives.
