Washington D.C. and Florida are coming together for Everglades Summit 💧🌴Researchers at presented their findings on topics about the restoration and threats to our water.

Having met with Senior Policy Advisor Clayton Stein and and Legislative Correspondent Ignacio Olmos, they argued for the importance of Everglades preservation and what it means to state as a whole. Florida’s water, economy, and identity is all rooted in the Everglades, making these meetings crucial to the future of Florida. ☀️

Researchers at are developing cutting-edge tools to detect and address bridge deterioration, including corrosion-detection dogs, advanced imaging technology capable of assessing steel cables, and sprayable Ultra-High Performance Concrete designed to strengthen aging infrastructure.

Supported by -funded research initiatives, these technologies could help engineers identify problems earlier, extend the lifespan of critical infrastructure, and improve public safety nationwide. FIU engineers have developed a breakthrough spray-on Ultra-High-Performance Concrete (UHPC) system designed to repair and strengthen aging bridges faster, more efficiently, and at a lower cost. As part of Infrastructure Week, FIU’s new Dean of Engineering and Computing, Jack Puleo, joined Atorod Azizinamini, Director of FIU’s University Transportation Center, and Todd Crowl, Director of FIU’s Institute of Environment, for meetings with congressional offices to highlight FIU’s leading infrastructure, transportation, and resilience research.

FIU in DC was also proud to partner with the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce for joint advocacy meetings advancing priorities important to South Florida’s business community, including transportation, affordable housing, workforce development, and sea level rise resilience.

FIU remains committed to strengthening partnerships between academia, industry, government, and the broader community to help shape a more resilient future.

Day 3 of 🚰 Water is a basic necessity, but most times the systems and mechanics behind its availability aren’t thought of until they’ve been compromised.

Today, the Organization of American States and organized the International Water Security Conference where speakers, like Security General of OAS and Ambassador of Panema to the OAS , where they discussed threats to water security.

Members from our own & shared in the discussion. FIU’s Todd Crowl and Maria Donoso, shared their thoughts on how to further the nations water security and availability.
