Trade, Investment, and Development Program at WCL

Trade, Investment, and Development Program at WCL TID focuses on the linkage between trade and other disciplines, such as intellectual property, environment, investment, labor and human rights.

The interdisciplinary Trade & Investment Law and Policy (TILP) program, established at American University Washington College of Law in 2014, initially operated under the name Trade, Investment, and Development Program (TID) from 2014 to 2024. The interdisciplinary Trade, Investment and Development Program (TID) was established early 2014, at American University’s Washington College of Law (AUWCL)

in conjunction with the Brazilian International Trade Scholars’ Institute (ABCI Institute). The program consolidates and expands upon the law school’s existing trade-related curriculum and extensive experiential learning opportunities. The diverse curriculum focuses on the Law and Practice of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Regional Trading Arrangements (RTAs), International Trade Policy, as well as Trade and Environment, Investment Treaty Arbitration, and International Investment Law and Policy. TID also participates in organizing an intensive three-week summer course in Geneva on WTO: Rule-Making and Dispute Settlement, taught by staff members of the WTO and the Advisory Centre on WTO Law (ACWL).
