More than 200 of the 300 students participating this year in Georgetown Law’s 17 legal clinics pledged to uphold the highest levels of honesty, integrity and professional conduct at Georgetown Law’s third annual student attorney oath ceremony.

The ceremony, presided over by Judge Loren AliKhan, L’06, of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, highlighted the students’ new roles as student lawyers tackling a wide range of legal issues, from policy work and transactional law to civil and criminal litigation, while advocating “competently, zealously and diligently” on behalf of their clients.

"The law school's motto is that law is but the means, and justice is the end," said Dean M. Elizabeth Magill in her welcome remarks. “That principle … is going to be at the center of the work that you will be doing in the clinics this year. That work is serving justice in whatever clinic you’re in."

The Georgetown Law Journal hosted its annual banquet in May at St. Francis Hall in Washington, D.C. with more than 160 current editors, alumni and friends in attendance.

Chief Judge James E. Boasberg of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia was the featured guest, in conversation with outgoing Editor-in-Chief Amritha K. Ramalingam, F'23, L'26.

Ramalingam and the Journal's new Editor-in-Chief, Maria McNiece, L'27, brought alumni up to date on current activities and priorities, including a preview of pieces publishing in the year ahead.

Last week, the Georgetown community gathered on the Eleanor Holmes Norton Green for the Capitol Campus Welcome, kicking off a new academic year with food, music and games. Students, faculty and staff also met and mingled with Dean Magill and President Peñalver. Welcome back, Hoyas! 💙

Meet the newest Hoya Lawyas! Some 600 J.D. students and 275 LL.M. students recently kicked off their Georgetown journeys with a week of law school orientation and getting to know Washington, D.C.

A highlight for incoming J.D.s was watching professors argue a live Supreme Court case at the Faculty Moot Court, which takes place in Georgetown University's Gaston Hall annually.

Some 600 new J.D. students and 275 LL.M. students began their Georgetown Law journeys August 18 at Orientation, which offered welcome activities, classroom introductions, city tours and social gatherings for incoming students as they arrived on campus.

As part of this year's orientation programming, over 50 incoming 1Ls spent a day in service across the District. Students sorted food at the The Father McKenna Center, organized donations at Bread for the City, packed meals with Food and Friends, served lunch at SOME (So Others Might Eat)'s Father John Adams Resource Center and wrote letters to Thurgood Marshall Academy students through OPICS. Thank you for kicking off Orientation in the spirit of people for others, Hoyas!

Georgetown Law hosted its second annual J.D. Careers 1L Networking Mixer Thursday, connecting incoming 1Ls with alumni for conversations about the legal profession and the paths it can lead to.

First-year students had a chance to hear firsthand from alumni across firms, government and public interest work. Thank you to the Office of Career Strategy (OCS) and the Georgetown Law Office of Public Interest and Community Service (OPICS) for organizing this fantastic event!
