Battalion, Parade Rest!

Yesterday the Capital Battalion began lab with a random inspection. Alpha, Bravo, and Charlie company staff all had the opportunity to evaluate their midshipmen’s knowledge, uniform’s appearance, and military bearing. Inspections ensure that everyone upholds the standards expected of future officers.

Following the inspection, underclassmen and upperclassmen got a chance to meet during Speed Mentorship, making new connections and helping them practice their communication skills. Mentorship is critical for a midshipman’s personal and professional success, both now and in the fleet.

Finally, Captain Mitzen, Lieutenant Brennan and Master Chief Foster shared their experiences in the nuclear surface warfare community. Their brief included details on the nuclear training pipeline, career opportunities, and lessons learned in leadership.

This past week some of our midshipmen and officers got the chance to attend the 37th Surface Navy Association National Symposium. There they got an insight into what the future of the fleet has to offer, and got to network with several leaders, including the .

“The SWO Symposium was an amazing way for me to meet a lot of people who gave me insight on what this community has to offer. I was able to talk to people I met in the fleet this summer, who had recently returned from Japan. Everyone I spoke with was eager to answer any questions I had. I learned so much about the contracting of all assets of our Navy, the most interesting to me being L3Harris. This was a 10/10 conference that I would recommend to anybody who wants to learn more about the Surface Warfare community.”

On 08 NOV, the Capital Battalion hosted the Navy and Marine Corps Birthday Ball. In attendance as the Guest of Honor was Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy James Honea. During his remarks, MCPON Honea noted the importance of building connections with those you lead. He recognized MIDN 1/C Sundheim and Bush, MIDN 2/C Morgan, and MIDN 3/C Witzel, all of whom are known for their ability to make an impact on others. In accordance with tradition, the youngest and oldest Sailors and Marines share a piece of cake symbolizing the teamwork across generations. The pieces of cake were shared by MCPON Honea and MIDN 4/C Obikwelu, and Capt. Rocha and MIDN 4/C Loh.

The Navy and Marine Corps Birthday Ball is a time-honored tradition that celebrates and honors the rich history of the services. It provides a forum to recognize the sacrifice of service men and women who came before us while reinforcing the spirit and camaraderie of those in attendance.

Thank you to all that joined to celebrate the Navy and Marine Corps 249th birthday!
