"I would like to make you all aware of two opportunities for our students and recent alums through the USBLN (US Business Leadership Network). For those of you who have not heard of USBLN, it is an organization that unites businesses around disability inclusion in the workplace, supply chain and marketplace. USBLN has more than 130 corporate partners spanning the technology, healthcare, financial, transportation, entertainment, and retail industries.

At this time, USBLN's Rising Leaders Initiatives are encouraging Gallaudet students and recent alumni to apply to the Rising Leaders Mentoring Progam (open to all students) and the Rising Leadership Academy (best for juniors, seniors, graduate students, and recent alumni). Deadline to apply is Dec.18th if students are interested in either or both programs. The application is as simple as filling out a survey monkey form, doesn't take long and the benefits are huge! For both programs, individuals will have the opportunity to network with employers who "get it", develop their career development skills, and even secure job offers. On the application form, students can choose which (or both) programs they're interested in.

Submit Application

Please take time to read the attachment about these programs and recommend to anyone you think might benefit from this! The Career Center staff is trying to get the word out now to students, but sometimes hearing about things from faculty makes more of an impact! For the Rising Leadership Academy which coincides with USBLN's annual conference (this summer it's in las Vegas!), there is no charge for students. USBLN's corporate partners include Southwest Airlines and Marriott International, so flights and hotel costs are covered.

For more information about the Rising Leadership Academy, you can view this video of a 2016 Gallaudet graduate, Afomeya Mekonnen, being interviewed about her experience attending the Academy and subsequent employment with a USBLN partner: https://my.gallaudet.edu/intranet/announcements-archive/rising-leaders-initiatives-through-us-business-leaders-network-usbln-now-recruiting-students" - Karen Cook

"There are two reasons we all have different information about the world. First, as each of us proceeds through life -- and through any difficult situation -- the information available to us is overwhelming. We simply can't take in all of the sights, sounds, facts, and feelings involved in even a single encounter. Inevitably, we end up noticing some things and ignoring others. And what we each choose to notice and ignore will be different. Second, we each have access to different information." - Sheila Heen
