GW Office for Study Abroad and Student Exchange The Office for Study Abroad (OSA) provides and facilitates quality international educational opportunities at The George Washington University.

As educators, we promote the academic, personal, professional, and intercultural development of students before, during, and after their study abroad experiences. We respond effectively to student needs, contribute to campus internationalization, and foster cultural understanding and self-awareness among the student body. The OSA primarily works with undergraduate students; some short-term, faculty-led graduate programs are administered through the OSA as well.

A new year of the ACE Triple Degree Program has begun! Our ACE Class of 2029 has officially kicked off their experience with ACE this past week as they started their first year abroad in Rome, Italy at Luiss University.

Orientation was filled with…

🇮🇹 Opportunities to explore Rome’s underground and sometimes darker histories, offering students a reminder to explore beyond the surface-level of a new culture and live each moment to the fullest
🇮🇹 Explorations of local gems in nearby cities that offer new adventures and exciting sites within easy and accessible reach
🇮🇹 A hands-on lesson on Italian cooking to develop a fun and useful skill to support students in their self-catered residence halls
🇮🇹 Lessons on public transportation and health and safety to help students safely explore all that Rome has to offer including a Wonder of the World and renown landmarks!
🇮🇹…and of course, opportunities to begin adapting to their new host university for the year and collaborating with their fellow ACE students from Luiss and Renmin who will join them throughout this journey!

Their adventures are just beginning and we’re wishing them all the best for a successful year ahead!

michaela g : “Hello! So, I have officially begun my study abroad in Namibia! I landed here in Windhoek, last Thursday, flying a total of 18 hours from DC. I have been loving my time here, meeting my instructors, hanging out with other girls in the program, and discovering the rich history and culture of Namibia! So far, we have been learning about the aftermath of apartheid, the liberation movement (SWAPO) in the ’70s and ‘80s, and the presence of several indigenous peoples such as the Nama, Herero, and Ovambo. All that, and it’s only been a week! Can’t wait to learn more, till next time! xx”

maya : “I’m starting to pack for my semester in Belfast, so I’m making sure to be conscious with how much luggage I’m taking. Packing cubes have always been a travel staple for me, because they save a lot of space, which means I’ll have room to bring home souvenirs! I still have some last minute shopping and packing to do, but I’m looking forward to the start of my program!”

Elizabeth Coulson : “I can’t believe it, but I’m now a third of the way through my semester at the University of Sydney! I’ve immersed myself in my studies, learning more about Australian cinema and theater, genetics, brain structures, and health issues from an international standpoint. Over the course of the past two weekends, I also continued exploring Sydney and its surrounding areas. I saw glow worms in an abandoned train tunnel in Helensburgh, a town south of the city. I ventured through a local artist pop-up at Paddington Markets, admired the architecture of St. Mary’s Cathedral, wandered the halls of the Art Gallery of New South Wales, and finally walked along the coastal trail between Bondi and Coogee. As a Dance major, I’ve made an effort to find opportunities to dance and see dance performances in Sydney. I’ve recently engaged with weekly classes offered by MADSOC (the Movement and Dance Society at USyd), attended the organization’s 2026 Major Production, and invited friends to join me for an evening of line dancing in North Sydney.”
