Thank you for attending our Spring Lecture, “Young Women in Sustainable Design." We were delighted to host a presentation by Emily Oldham, former CUA ASHRAE President, Class of 2018 MSSD/MArch Graduate and Architectural Designer at DLR Group.

Emily's presentation --Elevating the Human Experience through Evidence-Based Design was inspiring and informative. It was great to see how hard work, beautiful design, and ASHRAE knowledge can come together in a series of projects that promote the children's health and development in the space they spend most of their days-- schools.

It was also exciting to hear a post-graduation perspective of a recent grad. As we work through studio projects and exams, Emily's example reminds us that all this hard work can really lead to sustainability in the built environment.

Don't forget, our next event is NCC Student Night on 24 April. If you are interested in attending, please contact Cristine or Khiem.

Welcome back to spring semester! While you were away, a group of students traveled with Dr. Kim to the 2019 ASHRAE Winter Conference & AHR Expo in Atlanta! We got to see firsthand the most recent developments in HVAC&R technology and building science research. The lectures, seminars, and presentations were centered around ASHRAE President Sheila Hayter’s theme of “Building Our New Energy Future”—highlighting the critical role that the built environment plays in energy systems.

Thank you all for attending tonight's Fall Lecture, "Striving for Zero", where our guest speakers presented on the net-zero renovation of the American Geophysical Union (AGU) Headquarters here in Washington, D.C. We heard from CUA ASHRAE Secretary/AGU Intern Cristine, and we met Joe Dilenno, an engineer with Interface Engineering, and Matt Boyd, the AGU facilities manager.

Please let us know (by email, facebook, or through the Nest) if you would be interested in going on a tour of the AGU building. In the following weeks, CUA ASHRAE will look into scheduling and work out the necessary details. It will be an amazing opportunity for all students to experience firsthand the application of high-performance sustainable design and management.

To learn more about the project, please visit the AGU website, where you can find additional pictures, videos, and more:

We hope you enjoyed the presentation, and we look forward to seeing you all again for our Spring Lecture next semester!
