Teachers are known for their dedication. Early mornings, late nights, and weekends spent planning or grading are often seen as part of the job.

But not all of that work is necessary.

Many teachers are spending valuable time on tasks that don’t significantly impact student learning, like creating every resource from scratch, grading every assignment, or responding to emails immediately throughout the day.

By making small adjustments — such as reusing existing materials, prioritizing high-impact grading, and setting communication boundaries — teachers can reclaim time without sacrificing instructional quality.

Sometimes, improving work-life balance isn’t about doing more. It’s about doing less of what doesn’t matter.

Most teachers don’t suddenly decide to leave. It’s usually a slow build with small moments over time...

It looks like teachers feeling stuck, overlooked, or unsure of what’s next. And by the time a resignation letter comes through? The decision has already been made.

That’s why early signs matter so much. Not because every shift means someone is leaving, but because those shifts are often signals that something deeper needs attention.

Thinking about teaching in China, or already there?

With over 1,100 international schools and strong demand for educators, China offers incredible opportunities for teachers looking to grow their careers while experiencing a new culture.

Many schools offer competitive benefits like housing, flights, and medical insurance. And with a lower cost of living, educators often have the chance to save while enjoying a comfortable lifestyle.

While you can teach in China without a license, earning a U.S. teaching license can open the door to higher-paying roles, top international schools, and long-term career advancement.

If you’re ready to take the next step in your teaching journey, it might be worth exploring your options.
