Hi everyone! I’m Liam, and I’m a 3L at UCLA Law. This fall, I’m clerking with the Senate Judiciary Committee in Senator Adam Schiff’s office. UCDC Law has been an awesome experience so far. Every day is fast-paced, exciting, and brings opportunities like watching judicial nominations hearings live and riding the Capitol Subway through the tunnels. As a law clerk, I work closely with the Counsel team, contributing to substantive legal and policy projects and legislation. I can’t imagine a better way to spend a semester in law school, and I’m excited to keep experiencing the inner workings of U.S. politics.

Hi everyone ! I’m Marisa Gomez, a 2L at UC Davis School of Law, and I’m thrilled to be working as a judicial extern at the D.C. District Court. This experience is especially meaningful as I’m exploring the judicial side of law, with the goal of pursuing a post-graduate clerkship. While I’ve had a wide range of legal experience, this is my first time working in a courthouse so I have been enthusiastic to observe the flow of litigation, court procedures, and the learn about the lifespan of cases in the courts.

When I’m not at the courthouse, you’ll find me exploring all that D.C. has to offer! I’ve loved checking out the museums and landmarks. Some of my highlights including living out my National Treasure dreams at the National Archives and seeing the pandas at the National Zoo.

Can’t wait to continue learning and experiencing everything this amazing city has in store!

Hi! My name is Darlene Radichel, and I am a Minnesotan 2L at UCLA School of Law. Though I have only been in D.C. for a little over two weeks, the UCDC Law program has already been one of the best experiences of my life. This semester, I am serving as an extern for the Senate Judiciary Committee, where I am gaining extensive experience drafting memos, briefs, and other materials supporting our team’s work. One of the most fun aspects of my job has been the opportunity to sit behind the dais during many of the new administration’s nomination hearings. Working in the Senate has been a long-time dream of mine, and I can’t quite believe I get to walk the halls of the Senate office buildings each day surrounded by individuals dedicated to preserving and strengthening our country’s institutions. Some of the most memorable moments of my semester so far have included flying into D.C. on Inaguration Day, running into Reverend Franklin Graham in the hall, going to Washington Mardi Gras, observing the high-stakes Kash Patel hearing, having lunch in the cafeteria with some of my old friends who work for other offices in the Senate, and getting to know my incredibly talented, kind, and awesome team. This experience has reaffirmed my passion for public service and deepened my understanding of the inner workings of government. I cannot recommend UCDC enough, and I am excited for everything the rest of this semester has in store!

Daniel Warner (UC Berkeley ’26)

I am a second-year law student at the University of California, Berkeley School of Law, and am excited to be externing in the National Security Division’s National Security Cyber Section at the U.S. Department of Justice. With a strong interest in national security and technology, I am looking forward to gaining a better understanding of the tools the government uses to disrupt and respond to malicious activity by hostile nation-state adversaries. While my time within NSD has only begun, I have had the opportunity to conduct legal research, sit in on and lead various meetings, and work on matters such as reviewing indictments and warrants.

This past summer, I interned at the U.S. Department of Defense in Washington, DC. As I also spent time in Virginia growing up, I am happy to be back in the city. In my free time I love watching Michigan sports and Los Angeles Kings hockey. This spring, I am looking forward to spending time at DC’s many museums (Air and Space specifically), exploring some different hiking spots in Virginia and Maryland, and hopefully catching some Caps and Nats games as well!

Hello! My name is Isha and I’m a 3L at UC Davis School of Law. This fall, I am clerking with the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee in Chair Dick Durbin’s office. I have immensely enjoyed my placement and time in D.C. so far. As a law clerk, I have had the opportunity to work on a variety of areas under the Committee’s purview including immigration, oversight, constitutional law and civil rights issues. I’ve done research and written memos to prepare for full committee hearings and assisted counsel with various committee roles. This placement has provided invaluable policy experience. Some of my favorite experiences include observing the Senate Floor, attending nominations and committee hearings, and giving our UCDC cohort a Capitol tour. I have also loved exploring the city and experiencing the D.C. fall!

My name is Jane, and I’m a 3L at UC Davis School of Law. This semester, I am fortunate to be interning with the National Labor Relations Board in the Contempt, Compliance, and Special Litigation Branch (CCSLB). This branch helps to effectuate the aims of the National Labor Relations Act by conducting contempt litigation to obtain compliance with Board orders and by representing the Board and General Counsel in special litigation, which includes the current constitutional challenges facing the NLRB. Through this work, I’ve gotten to meet the truly amazing people who make up this agency and sharpen my own legal skills while still in law school. This experience has solidified my interest in pursuing a career in the field of labor law, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to build my knowledge base of labor issues by working with highly dedicated and experienced practitioners. Highlights of my time in DC have included observing oral arguments in various federal courts, seeing my research and writing incorporated into federal briefs, reconnecting with friends on the east coast, and living in a city with wonderful public transit!
