She grew up taking in strays, rescuing dogs from the roadside, and caring for an abandoned pot-bellied pig. Now Madison Haddock is turning that lifelong connection with animals into a career in zoology and exotic animal rehabilitation. After graduating this May with her Associate in Science, she is headed to NC State in the fall. Her goal is to be the in-between person for animals in need, bridging the gap between injury and recovery, between captivity and the wild. Interested in transfering to NC State? Congratulations to Lindsay Biggs on receiving the BCCC Golden Apple Award! “In recognition of your outstanding dedication to enhancing the college environment and fostering a culture of care, wellness, and professionalism. You consistently lead efforts that strengthen our workplace community and promote personal wellness, including spearheading initiatives such as the “Meet Your Peeps”, physical wellness activities, and colleague recognition efforts such as the Apple Award. You are also instrumental in maintaining the smooth operation of essential processes, including timesheets and college vehicle checkout, ensuring accuracy and reliability (and when we mess up, you treat us with respect and kindness). Lindsay, you are an exceptional colleague whose leadership, organization, and attention to detail contribute significantly to a positive, supportive, and well-functioning college environment. You simply make BCCC a better place and I appreciate you!” – Lindsay was nominated by prior Golden Apple recipient Kimberly Jackson.

We are thrilled to have received a $10,000 grant from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation to expand adult literacy programs across our four-county service area.

The funding will support:
• A mobile laptop lending cart for consistent computer access
• An emergency transportation assistance fund for students facing short-term financial challenges
• GED testing fee coverage for approximately 30 low-income students

"This grant strengthens our ability to serve adults in Beaufort County who are working toward greater literacy and life skills," said Penelope Radcliffe, director of Career and College Readiness. "Our Career and College Readiness program is committed to meeting students where they are, and this support from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation allows us to expand access to those who need it most."
