Session Info: âThe Parentsâ Role in Music Education: Stewarding Your Childâs Musical Giftsâ
This session will look at the day-to-day challenges facing families involved in music education and what the parents' role should be in their kids' lessons and practicing. We'll also discuss the research-based cognitive benefits of musical training for kids, as well as motivational techniques for helping them continue through seasons of struggle. As both a teacher and a mom, I hope to offer perspective that will encourage students and parents alike to see the value of music education and to embrace the challenges and rewards of this lifelong journey.
More about Marianne Forman:
Marianne Forman has been arranging and composing since childhood. She holds a B.S. in Music Education with concentrations in piano and choral music. Because of her extensive background in both concert and church music, Marianne is passionate about creating music that is both beautiful and functional.
In 2020, Marianne was awarded an honorable mention in the Kingâs Singers New Music Prize for her SSAA setting of James Weldon Johnsonâs âThe Gift to Sing,â and in 2023 she won both categories of the Stockton Chorale Emerging Women Composers Competition for her settings of âThe Pastureâ for SATB choir and âWanderlustâ for SA youth choir. Her sacred and concert choral pieces have been performed around the world and are appreciated for their compelling melodies and accessible settings.
In addition to composing, Marianne is an adjudicator, church musician, and private piano instructor in sunny San Diego, California, where she resides with her husband and four children.
