GenerAsians (GA)

GenerAsians (GA) Wellesley College's Asian/AAPI+ magazine established in 1997. We are committed to spotlighting womxn's voices.

GenerAsians (GA) is Wellesley College's Asian/Asian American magazine for people of all ethnic backgrounds to discuss and write about Asian/Asian American culture, issues, and events. All types of submissions are welcome including current events, social issues, opinions, reviews/spotlights, creative writing, creative works (artwork, photography), editorials, etc. Published once each semester (in f

ull color!) and distributed free of charge, GA is dedicated to raising campus awareness of social, cultural, and political issues affecting Asians and Asian Americans. To further its purpose of educating the community and strengthening multicultural ties, GA hosts various on-campus events such as writing workshops and symposiums. GA was founded by Michelle Cheuk ’00 in the spring of 1997. With financial assistance from several Asian student organizations and a staff of only 10 students, GA released its first issue in May 1997. The magazine has since established itself as one of the college’s major student publications, with a readership that comprises a diversity of students, faculty, and staff. GA is now entering its fifteenth year of publication! Check us out on Google groups for detailed posts on events and our publication process! GenerAsians (GA)’s latest issue (Fall 2020) just dropped! 🌸

Head to wellesleygenerasians.com to read it.

In Politics, we’re covering articles about the appropriation of Eastern spiritual practices by the West, Korean spy cams, and the Asian American’s duty to BLM.

In Arts/Culture we’re digging into stories about sari shopping and disability in Asian culture.

Reflections takes us to reviews of movies, hip-hop, and restaurants. And finally, we also have some cartoons by Michelle Ma for you to finish with!

Enjoy!!! 💚💚💚

Wellesley College's Asian/Asian-American Interest Magazine

Dear Wellesley,

As an organization, we feel that it is part of our service to provide educational and support resources to the wider community. In order to honor the six Asian women lost in Atlanta this week and combat anti-Asian sentiment at large, we invite you to help us build a living library of community-based resources that re-imagine our pluralistic visions of care, mental health, coalition-building and liberation.

This library follows in the wake of other resources put together by student organizations and leaders on campus, and we thank them for building on this ongoing conversation with us. Our library is going to be democratically assembled, which means community members at large are invited to add resources. We encourage you to distribute, add to, and read through this document. Go in peace, go in power.

Dear Wellesley community and beyond, Black Lives Matter—and we are a part of a revolution for justice.

We came together to write a statement of solidarity, signed by our entire E-Board and Staff, that expresses our support for Black siblings and our commitment to promoting racial justice alongside womxn’s voices. As an AAPI+ organization, we hold a responsibility to educate ourselves, stand with other POC communities, and dismantle institutionalized racism. We recommend two resources in our letter below: Harambee House’s invaluable guide on resources that support Black Lives Matter, and multilingual translations of Letters for Black Lives. We urge you to educate yourselves, families, and friends to be actively anti-racist so we can come together to end anti-Blackness.

Check out a SNEAK PREVIEW from one of our Fall 2019 articles!

"Face of Asians in Hollywood" by Kathleen Kim '23

[EXCERPT]: “In the past two years, Constance Wu’s prominence skyrocketed from being Jessica Huang on the TV show “Fresh Off the Boat” to Rachel Chu of the wildly successful “Crazy Rich Asians”– shattering glass ceiling after glass ceiling. As the first Asian woman to be nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Actress in 45 years and to be named one of Time’s 100 Most Influential People in 2017, Wu has broken more boundaries than most faces in Hollywood can say. While many dotingly dub her as the “face of Asian Hollywood,” this title, however, only serves to reduce Wu’s groundbreaking achievements….”

Want to know why the “Face of Asian Hollywood” is actually a harmful title? Pick up a copy of GenerAsians’ Fall 2019 magazine (coming to campus soon) and check out our website!
