Rainy weather didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of the nearly 1,900 Wellesley alums who returned to campus from May 22 to 24 for their reunions. It was the first time in a decade that the classes ending in 6 and 1 and the Continuing Education/Davis Scholar (CE/DS) alums had a chance to come together officially, as Reunion 2021 was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Alums of all ages attended—including seven members of the class of 1951, celebrating their 75th reunion—representing 47 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and 26 countries.

Last week, Wellesley College announced that MyinTuition—a non-profit organization created by Professor Phillip Levine that provides innovative, simple tools to help students and families estimate college costs—has been acquired by the College Board. This move will expand access for millions of students and families trying to understand what college will actually cost them.

Penn State Dickinson Law Distinguished Professor of Law Emerita Beth Farmer ’74 has committed to a $2 million bequest for Penn State Dickinson Law to establish an endowed scholarship bearing her name. She also took philanthropic steps to early activate the scholarship so that it can be awarded now and so that students will begin to benefit immediately, in addition to after the bequest is realized.

“I want to help students have one less thing to worry about as they navigate law school,” said Farmer. “I always told them they needed to feel free to experiment and take risks, which will help them succeed and create a good life. I am happy to provide the support they need to do that.”

On May 2, Wellesley held “Imagining the Future: AI and the Liberal Arts,” a daylong event hosted May 2 by the Wagner Centers for Wellesley in the World, the Lulu Chow Wang ’66 Center for Career Education, and the AI Working Group.

Faculty, alumnae leaders, students, and staff came together for the on-campus event to discuss the challenges and opportunities generative AI presents, both in a liberal arts environment and beyond. The day’s agenda included two panels—one on alumnae experiences with AI and one on faculty research and experiences—and a lunchtime session, “Speculative Futures through a Liberal Arts Lens,” during which the audience broke into six small groups to discuss the impact of AI on a variety of disciplines.
