At the amazing age of 96, our beloved sorority sister, Soror Enid (Tarrelonge) Rocha, became an Ivy Beyond The Wall on March 28, 2026 after a brief illness.
Soror Enid was initiated into the Epsilon Chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated in 1949 while attending Boston State College. In 2024, Soror Enid became a Diamond member of AKA attaining 75 years of service, sisterhood, and scholarship. She was not only a pioneering charter member of Rho Epsilon Omega but also a proud active member of the chapter at the time of her passing.
Soror Enid embraced life fully. She taught social studies in Lowell Public Schools, and after retirement, continued sharing lessons about life. She was a loving wife and proud mother of three children and 5 grandchildren. Through backyard garden parties, sorority and other organizations, Soror Enid inspired many individuals across generations to appreciate their blessings and find their joy. She was an advocate for social justice. Soror Enid was a life member of the NAACP, a member of Black Genesis, and the National Organization of Negro Women.
Her civic duty led her to life membership at the Girl Scouts of America, the African American Historical Genealogical Society, the Lowell YMCA and the New England Quilt Museum. Soror Enid was a passionate Scrabble and card player at the Chelmsford Senior Center. She carefully tended to her lovely garden, dedicating time and effort to every detail. Soror Enid loved to dance. Now, she dances alongside those who preceded her passing.
Please pray for Soror Enid’s family, friends, and loved ones as there are many. While we are so grateful to God for letting us be a part of her wonderful life, we feel a void in our lives and will miss her dearly.
