Dear RSW Alums and Friends,
On our daily walks on the beach, besides playing fetch, Keeper and I look for treasures. It’s one of our favorite things to do together and believe it or not, Keeper is really good at it. Treasures to us are sea glass, drift wood, heart rocks. Some days we come home with a bounty, other days not so much.
“I don’t bend down for brown ones,” the woman said when she saw me pick up a piece of brown sea glass. The woman said it innocently enough, I think. The more I thought about it the more it bothered me. I guess I interpreted her statement to mean I don’t stoop down for brown ones. The brown ones aren’t worth it. Hmmmm.
I pick up all colors of sea glass. They are all considered treasures. It is amazing to think about bottles being torn into shards of glass by the power of the waves and being refined by tumultuous waves of circumstances only to be seen, picked up and valued!
I’ve been making ornaments from our bounty. My favorite thing to make are angels, brown angels. “The angel said to them, “Do not fear. I bring you good news of great joy for all people.” All. People. Now this is good news! Thank you, Jesus, for stooping down for all. Thanks for stooping down for me. Thanks for bending down and making the effort for all broken shards and counting us all as precious, worthy treasures.
May you know the incredible love of Jesus who came to bring life to all, the brokenhearted, desperate, hopeless…whatever color or shape you are. He stooped down on our behalf. “He made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross!” Philippians 2:7-8
Joy to you! The Lord has come! Let earth receive her King!
Let every heart prepare Him room! And let us all emulate Him by lovingly bending down counting all as worthy treasures.
Have a blessed Christmas and a very happy 2023!
