Co-Lin Seawolf Underwater Robotics Engineering

Co-Lin Seawolf Underwater Robotics Engineering Seawolf Underwater Robotics Engineering (S.U.R.E.) S.U.R.E. (Remote Operated Vehicle) for competition in the MATE international competition each year. industry!

is a student organization on the campus of Copiah-Lincoln Community College that develops an Underwater R.O.V. We have students and instructors from majors all across campus to help with the project including Drafting & Design, Precision Machining, Electronics, Physics & Engineering, Business, English, and Music. We received many support in our first year of competition. The team traveled to Orlan

do, FL for the international competition, but it would not have been possible without the support of the students, instructors, administration, and parents of Co-Lin as well as the community support through donations from various people and businesses in the area. This year, the competition is in Alpena, Michigan in June 2014. We have increased the complexity of the design from the previous year in an effort to push the students beyond they believe they can do. The project is designed so that each student has his or her specific part to do. When time gets nearer to deadlines, all the pieces of the puzzle come together. We meet on a weekly basis to discuss parts as they are produced, altered, and come together as well as discuss possible fundraisers to aid in our expenses. Follow along as we post updates on the project as it comes along. We are always looking for donors to contribute whether it be monetary donations, or material donations. We thank you for your support as we strive to make Co-Lin known as a leader in the R.O.V. MATE website: http://www.materover.org

Today’s mission was the Collaborative Bonus Mission. We did not know what the mission was until we checked in Wednesday morning. I included pictures of the piece we had to place. We had the opportunity to officially meet other teams, work alongside them, use their ROV if needed, as well as let other teams use our ROV if they needed to. The mission was a great success. Awards night is tonight at 5:45.

We had our first mission run today. With partial failure of the ROV, we were only able to complete a few tasks, giving us 52 points. We have repaired the ROV and are confident tomorrow’s run will be better.

We visited Riverfront Seafood to eat dinner, then headed back to the hotel. We just finished reviewing for the engineering presentation. I am so proud of the dedication and determination this team has. Who else would be up on a Thursday night past 11 PM talking about robots and wires?

We have our engineering presentation tomorrow morning at 10 AM, followed by our final mission run at 1:30 central time.
