Department of Languages and Cultures at West Chester University The Department of Languages and Cultures was established at West Chester University in 1959, by Dr. Alfred Roberts (1923-2012).

The name of the department conveys the range of research and instruction that exists at the undergraduate and graduate levels and reflects the breadth and

nature of our activities. Languages taught include American Sign Language, Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Latin, Russian and Spanish. We offer beginning and intermediate language courses in Classics, Deaf Studies, French, German, Italian, Russian and Spanish, as well as courses in other languages. We offer minors in Classics, Deaf Studies, French, German, Italian, Russian, and Spanish, as well as interdisciplinary minors in Latin American and Latino/a Studies, Linguistics, and Russian Studies. Major concentrations and K-12 Certification are offered in French, German, Russian and Spanish. Our Master of Arts degree in Languages and Cultures offers concentrations in French, German, or Spanish (with optional K-12 Teacher Certification), and allows students to develop their language and critical cultural skills at the graduate level.

They were so busy celebrating the group’s accomplishments that Dr. Corbin forgot to take a group photo… but we are SO PROUD of our students for their achievements!
