The University of Hartford’s College of Engineering, Technology, and Architecture (CETA) offers programs geared towards technology, research, and growth preparing students for future careers in engineering and architecture. Whether you want to create a new life-changing technology, design sustainable buildings, or even work for NASA, the College of Engineering, Technology, and Architecture (CETA)

will help you get there. We offer degrees in:
-engineering, with an emphasis on theory, analysis, and design,
-technology, with an emphasis on hands-on application of theory
-architecture, a combination of design and application of theory. All of our programs promote technical excellence, reasoning ability, communication and interpersonal skills, and an understanding of ethical and moral issues. Our small class sizes lead to personal connections, making it easy for faculty to share their expertise with you. Undergraduate programs offered:

Earlier in May, the CETA community came together for the second annual Senior BBQ, celebrating an incredible year of achievement, leadership, and connection across departments.

The event recognized student clubs for their impact and involvement throughout the year, highlighting the energy and dedication that help strengthen the CETA experience beyond the classroom. High-performing students were also celebrated for their academic excellence and commitment to their programs, reflecting the hard work happening across all disciplines.

A special moment of the afternoon honored long-time faculty Jim Fuller, who is retiring after years of service and support to students and the college community. His contributions and presence have left a lasting mark on CETA. Several other CETA faculty were recognized with faculty awards including Takafumi Asaki, Olivia Park, and Kiwon Sohn.

Departments also took time to recognize standout students and accomplishments within their own programs, rounding out an afternoon filled with appreciation, recognition, and celebration of everything that makes the CETA community strong.

The Sigma Xi chapter at UHart proudly recognizes the accomplishments of seniors, Shanny Opinya (Biology; Chemistry minor) and Olivia Dossias (Biomedical Engineering), trainees from the recently concluded NIH U-RISE program, who presented their recently published study in a poster titled, “From Variant to Repair: Investigating and Correcting a Rare Pathogenic GDF11 Mutation,” at the 2026 Northeast Regional Research Conference of Sigma Xi Scientific Research Honor Society.

Held at Western Connecticut State University, the conference provided a prestigious platform for emerging scientists to share their work. The students’ presentation reflects the depth of their research training and highlights the lasting impact of the NIH U-RISE program, under the leadership of Cindy Thomas-Charles and Aime Levesque, in fostering scientific inquiry, resilience, and excellence. Their achievement underscores the vital role of undergraduate research experiences in preparing the next generation of scholars and innovators.

Earlier this month, 57 graduating seniors were inducted into the Order of the Engineer. The University of Hartford's link, link 97, was established back in 1988. The link was delisted for quite some time due to inactivity, but Dr. Olivia Heui Young Park (link coordinator) and Dr. Paul Slaboch, both members of the Order, were able to bring it back for this year!

The Order of the Engineer was established in the United States in 1970. Any graduating senior in an ABET accredited program by the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) is eligible to join, and over 70% of graduating seniors participated this year. By becoming a member, engineers affirm their strong commitment to ethics and responsible application of your engineering knowledge. Members of the order receive a stainless-steel ring, sign a certificate, and are granted a lifetime membership. The ring is worn on the fifth finger of your working hand, as a constant reminder that as engineers, they have pledged to practice their profession in a forthright and ethical manner.

Through hands-on learning, leadership opportunities, and real-world problem solving in CETA, the Electromechanical Engineering Technology major turned his passion for robotics and innovation into a full-time career before graduation.

Sstudents from the CETA recently visited the Pratt & Whitney Customer Training Center for an incredible behind-the-scenes experience in the aerospace industry.

Led by retired Pratt & Whitney engineer and CETA instructor Al Penda, who also helps direct our Mechanical Engineering capstone projects, students got an up-close look at the scale, complexity, and innovation behind jet engines used around the world. The tour was made even more special by UHart alumna Kayla Mennillo '18, M'24, who escorted the group through the facility.

From learning how engines operate to seeing how classroom concepts directly apply in the field, the visit gave students valuable insight into the real-world impact of engineering. While the group was primarily aerospace engineering students, our mechanical Engineering students were represented as well!

This weekend, we celebrated the incredible achievements of our CETA graduates as they crossed the commencement stage and began the next chapter of their journeys.

From engineering and architecture to computer science and technology, our students are leaving UHart ready to lead, innovate, and make an impact.

Great conversations and even better insights at the second IEEE HSB Lunch & Learn Seminar at the University of Hartford back in April.

Students and attendees explored cybersecurity in the insurance industry, including cyber insurance fundamentals, InsurTech’s role in risk management, and how AI is reshaping today’s threat landscape.

Thank you to Steve McWilliams from HSB - Hartford Steam Boiler for sharing his expertise and sparking thoughtful discussion throughout the session. We appreciate everyone who joined us and look forward to future Lunch & Learn events!

The University of Hartford has officially joined the national UR2PhD initiative through the Computing Research Association, creating new pathways for undergraduate students to pursue advanced research and doctoral studies in computing.

From AI and cybersecurity to ethical technology development, students will gain hands-on research experience using advanced resources in the Hursey Center while working alongside faculty mentors.

This partnership reflects CETA's continued commitment to research, innovation, and preparing students for what’s next.

More than 200 CETA students showcased over 100 innovative projects at the Spring 2026 CETA Design Expo, from robotics and acoustical engineering to architecture and civil engineering. Students pitched their creations to industry professionals, faculty, and peers, highlighting the hands-on, real-world learning that defines the CETA experience.
