This week, for NSAC | Coffee Hour Special Series, our interviewee is BNC Alumni Professor- Dr. Susmita Dash. Dr. Dash received her Ph.D. in the School of Mechanical Engineering at Purdue University in 2014. Currently, she is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India. Prior to joining as a faculty, she worked as a Postdoctoral Associate in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, USA.

Dr. Dash received Bilsland Dissertation Fellowship (2013‐2014), and Outstanding Research Award (2013) of Purdue University. She is also the recipient of the 2012 ASME Electronic & Photonic Packaging Division (EPPD) Student Member of the Year Award in recognition of a student who has excelled in research and has shown promise to be a strong contributor in the field of electronic and photonic packaging.

This week, for NSAC | Coffee Hour Special Series, our interviewee is BNC Alumni Professor- Prof. Wenshan Cai. Prof. Cai received his PhD from Purdue University in 2008. In 2012, he joined the faculty of Georgia Institute of Technology as an Associate Professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering, with a joint appointment in Materials Science and Engineering. Prior to this, he has been a postdoctoral fellow at Stanford University. Prof. Cai was promoted to full Professor in 2021.

Prof. Cai has published over 60 journal articles, which in total have been cited around 16,000 times. Prof. Cai has also authored the book- Optical Metamaterials: Fundamentals and Applications along with our very own BNC Professor- Prof. Vladimir Shalaev. Prof. Cai is the recipient of several national and international distinctions, including the renowned OSA/SPIE Joseph W. Goodman Book Writing Award (2014), the CooperVision Science & Technology Award (2016) and the Office of Naval Research Young Investigator Award (2017).

This week, for NSAC | Coffee Hour Special Series, our interviewee is BNC Alumni Professor- Prof. Baratunde Cola. Prof. Cola obtained his PhD from Purdue University in 2008 and is currently an Associate Professor in George W. Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering and the school of Materials Science and Engineering at Georgia Tech. Prof. Cola is the founder of Carbice Nanotechnologies, a company that sells a leading solution for heat removal in electronic devices. For his work and leading research Prof. Cola has received several prestigious awards including the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers in 2012 by the then President Barack Obama for his work in nanotechnology, energy and outreach to high school art and science teachers and students. Prof. Cola has also received the AAAS Early Career Award for Public Engagement with Science in 2013 and the Bergles-Rohsenow Young Investigator Award in Heat Transfer from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers in 2015.

This week, for NSAC | Coffee Hour Special Series, our interviewee is BNC Alumni Professor- Prof. Gururaj Naik. Prof. Naik received his PhD from Purdue University in 2013 and then joined Dionne Group at Stanford University as a postdoctoral scholar. Currently Prof. Naik is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Rice University. Prof. Naik is one of the recipients of the IEEE Photonics Society Graduate Student Fellowship. Prof. Naik has also been awarded the 2013 Outstanding Graduate Research Award at Purdue University and a Gold Medal from the Indian Institute of Science.

Prof. Das has been honored with the 2020-21 Rustum and Della Roy Innovation in Materials Research Award, Penn State University, and the Young Investigator Award, Air Force Office of Scientific Research, Feb 2017-Jan 2020.

This event aims to prepare graduate students and post-docs, with an interest in a career in academia, for academic/faculty interviews. We take great pleasure in inviting you to this panel.

"How I accidentally found the career I love"

This week for NSAC | Coffee Hour Special Series, our interviewee is BNC Alumni Professor- Prof. Aaron Franklin. Prof. Franklin received his PhD from Purdue University in 2008, completed a direct-PhD in just 3.5 years despite the challenges of transitioning lab equipment during the founding years of Birck. Prof. Franklin was one of the members of NSAC and has served as a docent (tour guide) for first few weeks after BNC’s opening. Currently, Prof. Franklin is Addy Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering & Professor of Chemistry at Duke University, with over 90 peer-reviewed papers and more than 50 patents under his belt.

Dr. Saha is the recipient of 2014 Purdue University College of Engineering Outstanding Graduate Student Award and has recently been honored with the 2020 Young Scientist Research Award from the Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences, Department of Energy, India

For this week's NSAC | Coffee Hour Special Series, our interviewee is Prof. Mathieu Luisier- Purdue Alumni Professor, currently serving as an Associate Professor of Computational Nanoelectronics at ETH Zurich, Switzerland. Prof. Luisier is a recipient of 2013 Starting Grant, awarded to talented and early-career scientists who have produced excellent supervised work and ready to work independently and show potential as a research leader, from European Research Council (ERC). He has also received the 2019 ACM Gordon Bell Prize for his outstanding achievement in high performance computing.

Prof. Shalaev has received several awards and recognition for his research in the fields of nanophotonics and metamaterials. He is also one of the highest cited researchers from the Web of Science Group.
